In the frostbitten dawn of August 15, 2026, the Alaskan People's Republic was born amidst the jagged peaks of the Chugach Mountains. Decades of economic neglect and federal overreach, coupled with the electrifying visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Anchorage the previous year, had ignited a fervor for autonomy among Alaskans. His speech, praising their rugged independence and hinting at support for self-determination, galvanized a coalition of miners, fishermen, and indigenous leaders to declare independence in Anchorage.
The Alaskan Self-Defense Force (ASDF), a scrappy militia armed with hunting rifles, repurposed snow machines, and a fierce will to protect their homeland, took shape. Like the Donbass rebels of 2014, they dug in, fortifying small towns like Wasilla and Fairbanks against an anticipated federal response, their resolve hardened by the bitter cold and a shared dream of self-rule.
