Chelsea under fire over disappointing transfer decision

Emmanuel Petit has slammed his former club Chelsea over their decision to sell midfielder Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid.

Gallagher's impending departure from Stamford Bridge has left Petit saddened, with Chelsea making another mistake in sanctioning his departure.

In an interview with Gambling Zone, Emmanuel Petit gave the basics:

"There's always something strange going on at Chelsea. Sometimes you want to tear your hair out just because you don't understand what they're doing - it doesn't seem like this ownership group has learned from the mistakes they've made."

"I am very frustrated with what is happening at the club. It worries me that in the last two years under this owner there have been so many bad decisions and so many changes. They have changed everything. There is no longer the same atmosphere at Chelsea, both inside and outside the club. There is no connection with the fans."

"I look at a project where they sign all these young players for huge amounts of money on incredibly long contracts and it makes no sense. The Americans spent over a billion and what did they get? Some of these players got huge contracts without achieving anything in football."

"Then you look at the players they sell. They sell their best players and academy graduates. Conor Gallagher was Chelsea's best player last season, apart from Palmer. He captained the team for pretty much the whole season because Reece James was injured."

"He plays for the national team. He came through the academy and you're going to sell him for what? £30m? He's your best midfielder in the team!"

"How can Gallagher be worth £30m and someone like Manuel Ugarte be worth £60m or £70m? It doesn't make sense to me. I don't understand. I don't understand the decisions that are being made at the club."

"They are forced to sell players because they have signed too many new players and are now counting the cost of those mistakes in the transfer market. £30m for Conor Gallagher is a bargain in this market for any buyer."
