I'm not a big fan of the idea that “confidence comes from believing in yourself” 🙅‍♀️

Here's why…

The definition of “belief” - is an acceptance of something being true WITHOUT having any proof (which means that it can easily waiver based on other peoples opinions or even based on your mood for the day) ⚠️

When it comes to my own journey...

I always tried to affirm myself and “act” confident when I first started going to the gym…

But the reality was - I was scared, insecure & embarrassed 😳

So much so .. that the first gym I ever joined was a women’s only gym because I wanted to be seen by as few people as possible !!

And now I look back it .. it makes perfect sense why I felt that way…

I literally had NO idea what I was doing 😅

It took MONTHS of learning what to do and being exposed to that environment before I started to feel a small sense of confidence 🤷‍♀️

Which lead me to the realisation that…

Repetition = CONFIDENCE

Meaning that the more you do something…
The more confident you’ll become at it 💯

So if I was going to give my younger self some advice (before starting something new) I’d say…

Expect it to be uncomfortable.
Expect to feel insecure.
Expect to do it wrong!

But guess what ??

THAT’S OK ❤️🙏

Don’t try and force yourself to “feel” confident when you’re not…

Most of the time - that just makes our insecurities worse because we start judging ourself for not feeling the way we want to feel 🙃

So just lean in to the discomfort and know that things will get easier over time !!

Your first step will be the hardest one…

So once you conquer that - you’ll be on the road to achieving your goals before you know it 🏆

Here’s 5 Things I Wish I Knew 15 Years Ago…

1. Life isn't a race - take your time, stay in your own lane, and enjoy the journey (without comparing yourself to the progress that other people “project” on you ).

2. Don't be too hard on yourself - mistakes happen, learn from them, own them, find a way to laugh about them, and move on (instead of letting shame or guilt prevent you from moving forward).

3. Quality over quantity - invest in friendships and relationships that truly matter (rather than trying to get approval from people that won’t even be in your life long term).

4. Success is subjective - define what success means to YOU and do your best to strive towards it every day (without getting distracted by what our society / culture proclaims that “success” is - especially if it doesn’t align with your own vision).

5. Take risks - don’t let fear hold you back from pursuing your dreams (rejection and failure hurts, but only temporarily, it’s better to have tried than to never try at all).

How often do you compare yourself to others and come to a negative conclusion about your own circumstances ??

It seems to be getting increasingly harder to resist this trap - especially on social media where you typically only see peoples highlights (which tends to distort
our perception of reality)

The advice that people often give is to “only compare yourself to who you were yesterday”…

And whilst that’s helpful for some - it never really clicked for me 🤷‍♀️

Partly because I think it’s human nature to compare things .. and also because I’ve found that comparison can actually be helpful (depending on how you process it)

So instead of trying to deny yourself of something that you’re inevitably going to do…

Here’s some things to try that have helped me 🙌

1️⃣ Always compare BOTH sides of the spectrum

For example… if you find yourself frustrated that you don’t have the body, the relationship, the career, the finances (ect) that someone else has… take a moment to appreciate that there’s always someone in a worse position than you

2️⃣ Avoid Imitation - be the Inspiration

For example… instead of trying to act or be like someone you’re not… use that person for inspiration to validate what’s possible for you IF you focus on continual self improvement

3️⃣ Reflect on where you started instead of only focusing on where you want to go

For example… even though you might not be where you want to be right now… chances are if you look back at where you were 3,5 or 10 years ago - then you’ll immediately find a sense of appreciation for yourself and everything you’ve been through to get to where you’re at right now

Here’s 3 essential things you should be doing to maximise your training progress… ⁣

1️⃣ BE CONSIST⁣

ALWAYS show up.⁣
Regardless of how you feel. ⁣
Doing SOMETHING is always better than doing nothing. ⁣

2️⃣ APPLY OVERLOAD ⁣

The same actions will produce the same results. ⁣
You must find a way to do MORE over time. ⁣
Even if it’s just one extra rep - every little bit adds up!!⁣

3️⃣ TRACK YOUR EFFORTS⁣

Be sure to document EVERYTHING. ⁣
That way you’ll know exactly what to do. ⁣
And you’ll begin to identify with what’s working .. and what’s not. ⁣

Whilst this was written with training in mind…⁣

I find these 3 things are essential in basically ANY area of life 💯⁣
