Today's book for is Suki's Kimono by Chieri Uegaki, in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and Mother's Day. Suki decides to wear her kimono to school because it reminds her of her grandmother's visit last summer. https://www.kidscanpress.com/products/sukis-kimono

Suki's favorite possession is her blue cotton kimono. A gift from her obachan, it holds special memories of her grandmother's visit last summer. And Suki is going to wear it on her first day back to school --- no matter what anyone says.

Thank you for listening to TLE yesterday! We discussed Leonita Flynn's The Radio during and read the title poem, which centers around the haunting presence of the news during the speaker's childhood during the Troubles. The radio warns them of the violence about, so staying informed is necessary, though deeply anxiety provoking.

As mentioned on air, I had the amazing experience of meeting Flynn during a poetry reading she gave during my Women Poets class, taught by Prof. McDiarmid (pictured here).
