Lots of our very nutritious foods are gradually getting phased out.

Farmers no longer grow them because people no longer eat them, and of course, they wouldn't want to grow what people are not eating or buying.

I'd bet that most of us are not even quite familiar with most of our traditional delicacies, let alone recognize that some of them are fast disappearing. Maybe because to us they are not very demure, lol.

When we interviewed some of our aged mothers and explored their dietary consumption in their days, we couldn't help but admit that they ate lots healthier than us.

What can we say? The only constant thing in life, they say, is change. However, it's worth noting that some changes can be detrimental in the long run.

Every true Nigerian mother when going to the market, understands the necessity of "mummy oyoyo" especially if "peace" must reign at home when she returns. As a matter of fact, it is one of the long lasting traditions we still very much cherish in our times.

Most times, mummy oyoyo comes as snacks, sometimes as wears etc. However, one thing is sure, it is usually in a ready to eat condition and so I'll simply focus on the edible goods.

Now the mistake most mothers make is that they use the same bag to put both the raw foods and these ready to eat foods. So inside that bag, there are banana, fresh cut of fish with its juices dripping out of it, egg roll, fresh cut of meats, groundnuts, fresh pumpkin leave etc.

We should learn how to keep our ready to eat foods from these fresh ingredients to avoid cross contamination because most times, we don't even get to subject them to heat again before eating. The same thing is applicable when storing them in a refrigerator. You should know what food to place in what compartment so that cross contamination doesn't take place. When your fresh raw ingredients begin to drip into the cooked foods underneath, it could pose a problem.

Little precautions as this could save you from food poisoning and other gastrointestinal discomfort you can possibly think of. Remember, no knowledge is a waste especially when applied.

Information is not usually followed with corresponding action.

For instance, you know that your fruits and vegetables are packed with loads of minerals and vitamins that will help with the chemical processes in your body thereby improving your overall health but I can bet some of you are not eating them.

In this case, information is not the problem because you do have it but putting it to action is where the problem lies.

I encourage you to make a dietary resolution to incorporate lots of fruits and vegetables to your daily meals. Remember, if you do not make use of that piece of information, you're not better than the person who is completely ignorant in that regard.

Hi there, beautiful people, today, I want to talk about why cooking at home is crucial for our health and well-being.

Eating out or relying on packaged foods can lead to serious health issues like diabetes, heart disease and low energy. Cooking at home gives you control over what goes into your body.

Set aside time each week to prepare simple, nutritious meals using whole foods like chicken, vegetables and brown rice. Add flavor with herbs and spices. Share cooking duties with family and friends to make it fun.

To make home cooking easy, plan meals, buy ingredients in bulk and prep ahead. Use leftovers for future meals. Invest in basic pots, pans and kitchen essentials.

Cooking at home improves overall health, boosts energy and clarity. It's about taking care of yourself and enjoying life.

It's a new week y'all, make everyday count. All the best ❤️

You might not be entirely responsible for where you are now, but you're fully responsible for where you'd be tomorrow. The difference is in the choices you're making today.

Happy new week, The Nutritious Tribe, go out there and make a difference being you and doing your thing.🥰🥰

Please endeavor to store your food items well to avoid contamination from rats, cockroaches, houseflies, bacteria, fungi etc.

Also know the right and safe conditions to store items like garri, bread, fruits etc to prevent moulds from growing on them. By moulds, I mean those greenish or bluish colours you find on them.

Here's why I'm giving this advice; it's beyond the health implications of consuming these spoiled foods because in most cases, I know you're aware it's unhealthy. It's the fact that I'm most certain that you won't trash them because country hard. Therefore, I'm pleading that you know the right conditions to store your food, so it doesn't get bad in the first place.

If there's any food item you want to know the proper and safe way to store it, feel free to ask in the comment section.

Going big on bitter foods doesn't directly counter sugary food effects. Personalized nutrition is key.

I see people advising diabetics to consume bitter leaf extracts, bitter kola, and vinegar. But do these provide lasting solutions?

These recommendations are often unprofessional, based on assumptions like "sugary foods cause diabetes, so bitter foods are the solution." However, diabetes management is complex.

Instead, advise diabetics to
* Eat whole vegetables, not extracts.
* Incorporate fasting wisely, ensuring adequate healthy carbohydrates to prevent blood sugar spikes
* Choose whole grains: oat, brown rice, quinoa
* Include fruits in moderation (whole fruits, not juice)
* Exercise regularly

Diabetics shouldn't entirely avoid carbohydrates; focus on whole grains and balanced nutrition.

Remember, spreading false nutritional information can harm lives. Consult experts (nutritionists, dietitians) before sharing advice.

Good morning, nutritious tribe!

I don't know who needs to hear this but attributing malnutrition symptoms to demonic possession is unacceptable. The child's weight loss, skin infections, edema, and eye diseases are clear signs of severe acute malnutrition. Educate yourself on the devastating effects of malnutrition instead of perpetuating harmful misconceptions.
