As the United States of America begin their severe weather season ours here in Australia/Queensland is coming to a close.

We will still see some showers and maybe the odd severe weather day but for the most part we will not be seeing any crazy weather at least until October through to next year which is Queensland's usual stormy weather season.

Last season showed us a lot, from monster record size hailstones, intense microbursts, a very rare derecho event and a significant tornado event on the gold coast as well.

La Nina is currently looking promising for the end portion of this year and is expected to be strong. This will create the potential for more significant weather and potentially significant flooding if it pans out as currently forecasted.

For now though we shall enjoy the weather as it cools down in the next few months.

Below are some quick snaps I got on the way home from work the other day 📸🌦

A couple of small storm cells are on the move towards the north east.

Heavy rainfall, damaging winds from microbursts & the potential for some small hail are possible with these storms.

1:45pm - Thunderstorm Potential For South East QLD, Tomorrow Monday 22/01/2024

Tomorrow could produce a little surprise and could be an interesting storm day for a few reasons but tomorrow could see an isolated thunderstorm or two that could pack a punch and possibly be severe in nature.

Firstly the problem with tomorrow's setup is the moisture profile with models showing a dry moisture profile however if moisture can make it's way in and work in conjunction with the afternoon sea breeze and a south easterly change then we could see the potential for some severe thunderstorm activity across the Scenic Rim, Gold Coast Hinterland, Darling Downs and the QLD/NSW Border Ranges.

Current modelling shows a boundary setting up tomorrow afternoon as a north easterly wind flow collides with a cooler south easterly change which looks to move up along the north eastern NSW and south east QLD coasts tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow night. Good wind shear values also look to be present from the south to south west across the Darling Downs, QLD/NSW Border Ranges and into the Scenic Rim.

So for tomorrow defiently keep an eye on the radar as tomorrow could have a little surprise during the afternoon.

Heads up, we have a sneaky lightning active cell trying to head up over the border at the moment, nothing severe in it at the moment.

Heads up it's not over just yet! ⛈

Preparing a video update & live stream for tomorrow's severe storms in QLD. (Thursday)

Overall, storms should be somewhat slow moving which introduces a flash flooding threat. Some large hail & damaging winds can be expected under any cells too.

More than likely start our chase around the general Goondiwindi area before pushing north into the evening and will keep up with any night time activity moving into the Wide Bay. More of a relaxed vibe this one, hopefully find some nicely paced, photogenic storms. Stay tuned!
