I KNOW. It blew my mind too. But then it quickly made sense.
“The beginning of the year is all about ‘new’,” says Diana. “But what hat if you don’t know what ‘new’ looks like for you? What if you’re not sure if it’s even what you want? What we know from psychology and science is that there are two ways to be motivated: “toward” or “away” from something. What people need to hear is that both are equally powerful of a motivator. It’s okay to be motivated to move away from something. Sometimes we have to move away from something before we can begin something else.”

There are so many new women here & I couldn’t be happier about it - hello! My journey started about 10 years ago. My father passed away, my marriage ended and I went for the trifecta and left my job as a TV personality. All in short order. Good Girl Mafia was born out of that journey organically. I never set out to start an empowerment company for women. I simply couldn’t find the kind of help & guidance I needed at that time and I knew I wasn’t the only one. I believe in healing the past (and present) with a perspective on the future.
I now coach women towards their empowerment. I also speak extensively on the topic. Real empowerment is as unique as a finger print. I’ve worked with enough women over the years that I know this for sure: you already have a sense of what a truly empowered life would look like & feel like. You just need to go on the journey to discover it, nurture it and then unleash it on the world. This is the last photo shoot I did before getting hit by a suburban crossing the street and being sidelined with injuries for a year.
The experience took me on a journey that deepened my personal empowerment, real empowerment, in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

Diana Perkovic is the founder of Good Girl Mafia, a female empowerment company, where "women supporting women" is more than just a cool catch phrase, it's a way of being. As an experienced Empowerment Coach, Diana has come to understand that the way to achieve empowerment amongst women is to cultivate, grow and unleash personal empowerment in one woman at a time.
Diana knows firsthand what it's like to be perceived as confident and empowered, while feeling like the complete opposite. Confident enough to interview stars like Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Cary and Mary J Blige on live TV, yet still disempowered. She couldn't make the life changes that were needed. She describes it as, "Deep down, I was the poster child for disempowerment - but who would've believed it?"
Diana managed to get unstuck, pivot and thrive fully empowered. Now she is on a mission to make the empowerment process much easier for other women. She teaches women how to do what she did: Self Empower.
It just hits different when it's from a woman. This photo was taken by a complete stranger on Miami Beach, after she insisted I get my phone so she could snap a few pics of me. She said, oh so enthusiastically, "You look amazing! Get your phone, you need pics. You'll thank me later!"

1️⃣ I see fear as a response to a specific situation that rubs up against a disempowered part of you.
2️⃣ I believe that repeatedly telling someone experiencing fear to just "do it anyways" can make the fear worse.
3️⃣ I know because I have been there and so many of my clients share similar stories.
My goal is to have you STOP looking for solutions to the fear and eliminate the problem - whatever the disempowered part of you is that has come out to play. Again. We can do better.

Approximately 90% of every single thing we do is subconsciously dictated by your tape recorder. By definition, it is SUB-conscious, below the surface, so we're not even aware of it. That lack of awareness put me directly in the path of major hardship and heartache. I want you to avoid that.

Feeling overwhelmed when any of ⬆️⬆️⬆️ disempowered patterns pop up? The disempowered parts of your tape recorder are such an energy leak. They drain you and you can literally feel it.
The most efficient and effective way to deal with this and so much more is by saying yes to the empowerment process. Efficient because you're not trying to piecemeal your personal development - an affirmation here, a journal there, and dealing with symptoms instead of getting to the root of it all. And that's what makes it effective. The process I've developed is a holistic approach. We cast the widest net possible and quickly hone in on what's standing in your way and take it from DISEMPOWERED TO EMPOWERED.

The number 1️⃣ reason being our true selves is hard?
Our tape recorder. It all comes down to the way in which your subconscious mind works. Everything you think, do, say, believe are subject to patterns and these patterns are dictated by the way in which your brain codes information, experiences, learning and the like.
So yes, the "greatest act of rebellion" because it isn't just about the reaction from the outside world, but the way we see ourselves the moment we hit that choice point: do I edit myself or do I let it rip? We're up against our programming, too. And it happens in real time. Becoming aware of our tape recorder lies at the root of the empowerment process.
Go ahead, rebel....
The 3️⃣ most common desired elements of empowerment I hear from women all the time are:
1️⃣ “Confidence”
2️⃣ “Use my authentic voice”
3️⃣ “Show up authentically”
And yet, in my work I find that these very elements can be so hard to achieve, especially in social situations.
This list could have been longer. Social situations are where our tape recorders get triggered - a lot. It’s common, normal and something we should talk about more. Being aware of these internal narratives is the first step to changing them. And all in all, that is life changing.

It's a common theme I see in my work: women waiting to make the decision, pull the trigger, take action, do the thing. And I am not immune.
I wanted to and put off leaving my job for years. (Yes, I said years.)
I wanted to and put off leaving my relationship, too.
And I believe that because I waited, life stepped in and made it all happen.
The problem was, it happened all at once. My dad passed away at the same time. So, it was the trifecta.
And yes, it was a lot.
I know that was the low point in my life, which brought me exactly to where I am today. Would I be on an empowerment mission otherwise? Who knows.
What I do know is that I no longer wait. I take action. I know what the cost of waiting can be. I've learned I'd rather take a scary risk over waiting for....what exactly? And there we are, full circle:

I did that this weekend. And if you've gotten to know me here, you know that it's not necessarily my go-to, default mode. Not at all.⠀ ⠀ And what came out of that were some tears. Not a lot, but enough to allow myself to feel the culmination of the last year. I was chatting with a dear friend of mine, who said, "Remember what we were doing this time last year?" Am I the only one who doesn't even want to think about it?? I think it's the stark contrast of same time, one year apart, that really sunk in. ⠀ ⠀ I do have all the tools to reframe my mindset and put myself in a 'better place'. But sometimes the best place is to just allow ourselves to be. And to allow others to be, as well. I always ask, "what is your definition of empowerment?" There's a reason. It will both ground you and guide you, even in these times. Because ladies, we are in it. It's happening all around us. If there was ever a time for us to support one another, it's now.⠀ ⠀ But first, take a breath and just be.
