Using the Moviestuff RetroScan Universal to transfer some 8mm film of Marineland FL.
Scanning 8mm film with the Moviestuff RetroScan Universal 1
A number of people have messaged me how I scan. Here is a short clip showing the process using the Universal 1 by Moviestuff.
It’s not particularly complex. Thread the film, adjust brightness and other settings, select the film type, resolution and set the scan going. I can scan up to 2K with the ability to overscan all the way to the sprocket holes.
Want to do this yourself? Unfortunately Moviescan is no longer in business. But fortunately this 8mm/Super 8/16mm scanner is for sale. Message me for details.
GAF 3000S Projector
Working on my film, but came across this little beauty to test some super 8 audio. New old stock, so it looks like the day it was made. Anyway, my 9yr daughter thought it was cool 😎
You find a lot of parades when you go through old home movies. Some are better than others. This one is quite fun. It’s from the National Cherry Festival held for the last 97 years in Traverse City, Michigan. Now if I could only figure the year?
FYI: better scans to come, I’m just cataloguing right now :)
Working on some great 16mm Alaska film. Love that picnic.
The Old Home Movie Vlog is close to relaunch. Working out the kinks in the film scanner and then it’s reels and reels of 16mm Kodachrome. Like this one. You know you’re gonna want to watch the family blowing bubblegum bubbles over and over and over again ;)
Haven’t posted in an age. Haven’t scanned in an age. But current status is come cool 1940s film.
I got this back in '07. From a Texas ranch estate. Here's life on the ranch, Pandale TX, 1956.

Ben Franklin 5 & 10 Fire, Salem WV 1959 Reel 26
Remember that time the old Ben Franklin 5 & 10 (Salem WV) caught fire back in '59? Well, I don't. Bet you don't either. But now we can both watch it in Kodachrome.

Hawaii 1971 - Orphan FB Film
Hawaii Vacation 1971.
One of my first big projects was to take 10-reels of Kodachrome from a 1970 vacation to Hawaii and make a film. Tonight I took an orphan film I purchased on Facebook and ran it through the RetroScan. It's almost like the same movie. Same locations, same sights - just a better photgrapher. Enjoy this older couple doing touristy stuff, 1971.
Cypress Gardens FL 1961
Cypress Gardens FL 1961
This is more of the West Virgina Woodruff archive. It's a film typical in any collection east of the Mississippi - the obligataory Florida vacation.
Since this is early - 1961 - we're not looking at Disney. No, we are in the golden age of Cypress Gardens, Marineland (if on the east coast), or some random aligator farm. Enjoy!
Woodruff Canada Vacation 1953
Watch for Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery.
More Little League Baseball, 1957
From the Kodachrome Box: 1957. A bit of Woody Baseball. Mostly Little League.
