Propeller Records Independent music from New Zealand Propeller Records and its subsidiary labels, Furtive and huh!, is an independent label from Auckland, New Zealand.

This page also gathers Ripper Records, now under the Propeller banner. Propeller (and Furtive) was run by Simon Grigg and Paul Rose from 1980 until 1983. Largely inactive now, the label was responsible for many of the early post-punk releases in NZ, a series of reissues of classic NZ recordings. Simon Grigg launched huh in 1994 and its releases include the debut by Nathan Haines and the global number one How Bizarre by OMC, plus the Nice'n'Urlich series.

Ohhh! 😁

Minor correction, Feel So Good was added for the 1993 Propeller extended reissue, although it’s hard believe that was 30 years ago now.

Body Electric's album has been on the Propeller vinyl reissue schedule for an age. It was going to come out as a joint venture with Dark Entries in San Francisco about 4 years back but missing master tapes and then COVID got in the way, plus they wanted to recompile it and the band and I wanted to do the original album as was and create a second disc with non-album tracks so that never happened.

Along the way it was bootlegged both in Russia and Japan too.

Then, when I was putting together the AK79 reissue, Zac and Hunter at Flying Nun were saying they were fans so it made perfect sense to reissue it as a joint release with FN.

Lovingly remastered by Alan and Garry, the second EP has *that* song plus 'Dash 1721' which seems to have a new life as some sort of underground classic in Europe and Japan. The new sleeve and project coordination are by the mighty Hariet Ellis at FN without whom ...

Released on Record Store Day (Saturday April 23) with a blue and yellow coloured vinyl edition only available in-store.
