About the Album:
Magnolia is an album about resiliency in the face of diversity while contemplating the science of the origins of consciousness and materiality. Magnolia navigates between songs of love and heartbreak and the tensions and beauty that come from being both Scandinavian and Asian. It encourages change and a dynamic way of rethinking how we relate to one another, emboldening an urgent sense of intimacy and opening up conversations between disparate cultures.

About the Artist:
Annika Zee is a multimedia artist born and raised in Toronto who later studied at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music in New York. Her production style draws from a discerning palette of sound that melds the possibilities of real and digital instruments, incorporating elements of noise, experiments in sound design, and classic songwriting.

The theme of this release, "club cyberia," is brought to life by these artists, who have crafted the ideal soundtrack for a night spent in the heart of a digital underworld.

Entering through an ambient dembow gateway, listeners are drawn into a realm of compositional prowess and emotional resonance. Here, each track tells its own story: a deconstructed club anthem that evolves from serene string arrangements into pulsating club beats, a thundering drum ‘n’ bass banger that doubles as an emotional rollercoaster, footwork that deftly weaves in the anime's iconic soundscapes (yes, even that familiar powerline hum), and a melancholic yet soothing score from the show, perfectly chopped and seamlessly layered over drum breaks; expect a jungle twist on a Cantonese pop classic, a mesmerizing fusion of vaporwave nostalgia and juke rhythm, and countless other surprises that blur the lines between genres and emotions.
