About 1.9 Billion Muslims across the world will start fasting during the Holy month of Ramadan. It starts tomorrow as determined by the lunar calendar. If you are meeting Muslim friends, colleagues or neighbors today or tomorrow you will warm their hearts by saying, “Ramadan Mubarak” or “Ramadan Kareem.”

A few helpful insights: Fasting during Ramadan is one of the fundamental tenets called the Five Pillars of Islam. Able-bodied Muslims abstain from food and drink from early dawn till dusk. Fasting during Ramadan is an exercise in physical, psychological, and spiritual discipline. The fast is meant to foster a relationship with God in lieu of seeking bodily pleasures. Most Muslims will frequently read Quran and offer extra prayers during the Holy month.

So now you will understand why Muslims for the next 29 to 30 days will abstain from drinking or eating during the day? Why they will politely decline invitations for meals during the fasting hours? Why they will excuse themselves for prayers? Why some of them may look tired in the late afternoons?

=> please see, this is not about preaching my religion to anyone. This is really about reaching a more perfect state of communal trust and mutual respect.
