And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about. ~Haruki Murakami

Late Papa Saitore Neape was one of the few last surviving fathers whose ancestors gave up the land of Goroka to be developed into what it is today as Goroka. His brother served as one of the pre independence police officers, who passed on his badges to Late Saitore before he passed on and he always kept it as a symbol to tell his story down generations and that was what he did. Late Saitore passed on at the age of 91 in Goroka last Friday 13th July 2024. Condolences to the family of Late Papa Saitore 😢 May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace and his story of peace and humility pass on for generations to come and live on in Goroka. 💐💕

Mr Saitore Neapa and also principal landowner of almost half of Goroka town from Komiyufa village shares his views on the significant development story of Goroka from the pre-colonial times, to independence, and the current developments.

"While we welcome development we should also value the goodness of old practices that has kept our societies together for many years like the traditional ‘hausman’ rules of enforcing law and discipline, said Mr Neapa.

“I witness the increase in petty crimes and dishonest police officers who do not take pride in their work.

“Police officers should uphold their responsibilities correctly and honestly.

“Goroka Town is not like what it used to be before, back then we took ownership of the town, we were mindful of rubbish and respected laws and rules.

“The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary must uphold their responsibilities correctly and enforce their job honestly without fear and favor.”

He describes ‘Independence’ as a recent thing that has left white people eventually leaving the country and calls on local leaders in the province to work together to surface impact projects off the land of EHP.

Mr Saitore Neapa thanks former Prime Minister Peter O’Neil for tangible developments of Goroka town since independence like the Goroka airport upgrade, University of Goroka dormitories and Goroka base Hospital extension costing millions of kina when he was the prime minister.

Everyone has that place of originality and a place they call their homeland promise land- their little Jerusalem, 44 years ago on we have a long way to correct our past and contribute to nation building.

These 👆were Late Papa Saitore's words during independence during an interview with Post Courier in 2019.

On a ship 🚢 with no Captain. Storms never last like in the song of the old timers. 😁 Patience has its own timing of rewarding those that wait. It will pass... 😊🙏 You're not wrong and you're not alone. You did the right thing. Better, brighter days are coming as the sun ✨️ rays pierces it's rays on the ocean's surface. Your ship will rest ashore. 🥳

It was a day before Christmas and it was that time of the year again when she would have all her children and grandchildren come around her big warm house kunai to share food and reunite.
Her husband had passed away some time ago and she lived alone, despite her children telling her to leave the village and come live with them in town where they all were working and share the privileges of life in the city she refused.
To her village was home and to adapt to town life was just not in her nature at all.
So her children built her a big house but she still wanted her big 'haus kunai' so they built her both.
In the Agarabi land of Kainantu is where she is from in Punano.
That morning she and her dog woke up to enjoy the morning sun when she was told of enermy that was coming to destroy the village and approaching closer, it was regarding land resources something she knew nothing of with no interest at all for her age. She fled with the rest of the people in the village and up the mountains seeking refuge. For her age she had already given up. Along the run for safety she lost her best friend (her dog) 🐕 . She stood from the mountains and could only see flames rising from her home where her 'haus kunai' stood, was nothing but flames. Only thinking that she had lost home and her best friend.😔🥺
Her in law (daughter's husband) who is a cop at Kainantu town came to the rescue that evening and she was brought to safety.
But what has become of her home? Where is her best friend, maybe he was butchered destroyed among the properties. She was worried.

To be continued...

She insists and her inlaw brings her home in the police vehicle, she gets off the vehicle and stood where her haus kunai stood and with tears in her eyes she could not look up again but down on the earth where the remains of her home lay burnt to the soil. In the midst of her sorrow there came running...
Barking as loud as it could was her best friend among the wrecks was her dog that moment of the reunion was something I could not hold back my tears from. Mama em dok blo yu ah? I asked. To her all hope was not lost as she mumbled words in the Agarabi language that you knew came from her old but strong heart. She said 'Tesi iyahn' (That's my dog in Agarabi language) as they both embraced 🥰

MP PRIORITIZES FUNDING TO REBUILD RURAL POLICE STATION

By Vicky Baunke in Goroka, EHP

DAULO MP Ekime Gorosahu says funding have already approved to build a new rural police station replacing the rundown Asaro police station in his district.

Mr Gorosahu said law and order is an important sector of the district and he has secured a funding through the National planning and monitoring to rebuild the police station in this year's (2024) DSIP budget for the district.

He said the new police station will also consist of a office for the mediation committee with plans to also build a police station that will serve the people of the Upper Asaro Local level government (LLG) of the district.

He said among his plans for the district includes a new police vehicle to assist police in village court and land mediation matters.

He said law and order is a serious matter for the district and in order for other services to run smoothly in the district law and order issues must be at bay.

Meanwhile, after almost 5 years he announced that all auxiliary police in his district were also budgeted through his DDA and have received payments from the district last Friday.
