🥂 🎈 This is 40 🎈🥂

Celebrated my 40th Birthday today in ROME, ITALY 🇮🇹

Had an amazing day discovering this amazing city! One big beautiful outdoor museum 🏛️

We saw all the highlights of Rome we wanted to see, wandered the small cobblestone colourful streets, ate our way through Rome with Tiramisu, Lemon Gelato, Pasta, Pizza, Cappuccino, got soaking wet from the rain in the morning, got our vitamin D with a lot of sun in the afternoon and ended the day this evening with big hail stones on our way back to our camper.

What a fantastic day to celebrate 40! A wonderful milestone. A new decennia. Bring it on 💪

🌳 Californian Redwood Forest, Warburton, VIC 🇦🇺

🍂 We always love wandering around in a forest, especially in the autumn season.

🌲 “Almost 1500 trees neatly lined up, with some being 55 meters high” … We had to check that out 😃
What we didn’t expect and knew: there are also beautiful walking trails in the area.
We walked through the forest and followed a random trail that led us to this flowing river, green vegetation and mud… a lot of mud
But definitely with the dirty 🥾

☕️ Make sure you stop in Warburton for a lunch or coffee break. It’s a super cute town along the river 💚

📚Homeschooling - What do we use 👩‍🏫
This is a question we get regularly.

We use a variation of apps & workbooks, which I will elaborate on in another post, but the app we use since Sem was only 4 years old and saw huge improvements in his literacy skills is Reading Eggs.

I have shared about ABC Reading Eggs regularly in the past ( also check out our Homeschool highlights ) and it's a great app for homeschooling but also a fun and engaging way of learning for non-homeschoolers.

ABC Reading Eggs is the number one destination where children learn to read and have fun while doing it. Call it positive screen time!

The program is designed to grow with your child on their own ability and speed. When you first start with ABC Reading Eggs, your child does a placement test, so the lessons line up with their own level. So there is never such thing as "running behind"

We watched Sesame Street ‘s new series called Mecha Builders. It’s a brand new animated TV show on ABC Kids that features Elmo, Cookie Monster and Abby.

And as a homeschooling mum, I love that it focuses on STEM education—encouraging kids to think critically about Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics.

Learning and a fun family “movie” night at once.

First destination: Tasmania

We are doing it all over again…
Travelling fulltime with a baby… so far so good 😊

We find travelling with a baby easy… you take them everywhere, they can’t run away, sleep everywhere, are super adjustable and all they need is love, sleep and to be fed… which can be done anywhere in the world 🌍

💙 Everyone knows someone affected by cancer, so what better way to get everyone involved raising awareness and funds for cancer research by hosting Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea!

🙏 A great community fundraising event where every dollar raised helps support those impacted by cancer.

🫖 After we received our host kit it was time to get our bake on, get our little community here together for a bite and a cuppa and raise essential funds for cancer research, prevention and support.

🌙 Moon Landscape in South Australia 🌙

📍 Hallett Cove Conservation Park, 22 kilometres South of Adelaide.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🗺 We did the 2km circuit hike exploring this amazing geological site.
Apparently, the cliff tops were the base of a glacial lake that melted 270 million years ago!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🥾 The hike begins from the carpark and cafe at Hallett Cove Beach, at the end of Heron Way.
If you’re up for a longer hike you can also walk further upto the Marion Coastal Walking Trail.

📕 No longer my baby boy and closing chapters 👶
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I saw my boy again after 3 days / 2 nights in hospital something happened. Like this strange metamorphosis. We never spend any night apart in almost 7 years, but something else happened..
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He wasn’t the same kid that I had said goodbye to just a couple of days earlier when I left for hospital to bring our baby girl into the world.
I said goodbye to my baby, my first born, my little boy.. and I returned to - what it seemed for me - a huge grown up child… like he skipped a few years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I still can’t figure out if that is because all I had looked at for the last few days was a tiny baby girl with a tiny body and a tiny head and I hadn’t seen him in 3 days, so he seemed so big in comparison… or maybe it was the fact that he was now no longer my baby, but my eldest.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I came to the realisation that it wasn’t him that had changed - he still was the same kid after all.
But it was me… I was I mum of two now… and then it hit me… life that we knew with the 3 of us and giving all my time and devotion to our gorgeous boy was over.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He was no longer our only child. No longer our baby. But he became a big brother. And we had to divide our time, with most of that time going to Lily at first…I felt guilty about that. And I wondered if I gave him enough attention… but he has been soo good and understanding and I am so proud of him.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The chapter of being a family of 3 had closed. Of having an only child.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We turned the page to a brand new chapter as being a family of four.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The reason my screen time & sleep are 50 % less 🥰

We have been a bit Mia lately… But the past 5 weeks have been so full of love, cuddles, nappy changes, challenges, learning, recovering, ups and downs, broken nights, postnatal check ups, finding a new rhythm, dealing with all of us having C -🦠 at the same time and isolating for a week in our van… adjusting to being a family of four and getting used and embracing the changes of my new body…
❤️‍🩹 hello c-section pouch, numb and sore skin, healing scar and abdominal separation / diastasis recti.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recovery takes time… and we are taking all the time to do just that and taking in all these baby cuddles at every hour of the day 🥰 🕛 🌙 ☀️
