Normality has resumed in Area 9 after a hectic 3 day weekend with our friend, Penny Clarke.

We held 3 clinics at 3 brand new venues and met lots of new people, many of whom were trying side saddle for the very first time.

Laughs were had, dozens of lessons were given, new saddles were fitted, tea was drunk, sideways dressage tests were smashed, fingers and toes were frozen off, endless side saddle chat was dished out and side saddle ambitions were realised.

Mission accomplished and we can’t wait to see more returners at our next clinics.

Huge thank yous go out to Jade, Karrie, Steve and of course, Penny for all their efforts but the biggest thank you goes to all our clinic goers for all your sterling support of Area 9

No rest for the wicked!! Penny and Jade are off and running at day 3 of Area 9’s side saddle training weekend.

Today we’re at Cousland and first up it’s 3rd timer Brodie. I think we may have her hooked on sideways now.

Day 2 done and dusted. Karrie and Penny have not long arrived home after their training day in St Andrews. A great bunch of ladies there today with some Area 9 members and some brand new attendees giving side saddle a go for the first time.

It was great to see you all and I hope we have whetted your appetite for further side saddle misadventures.

Side Saddle at Sidewood. Another great moment from yesterday at our first clinic of this long sideways weekend.

It was amazing to see Area 9 Legend, Yvonne back on board after a long break from riding sideways.

Her and Reagan had a great spin together and picked up a Ruby rosette in the Right Shoulder Back dressage class.

Super well done!!! It’s just like riding a bike Yvonne 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

EXTRA SPACES COMING UP AT SIDEWOOD SIDE SADDLE DAY.
Part of our side saddle training triple header weekend. Penny will be arriving earlier than planned on Saturday 25th at Sidewood Dressage nr Forth so we thought we’d put her straight to work.

Thank you to everyone who made it along to the Area 9 AGM at the weekend.

It’s been a good year for Area 9 and the committee is feeling energised for the challenge ahead in 2024.

HOME OF GOLF UPDATE!!!

Apart from Penny getting in a spot of bother with the green keeper on the Old Course for hoof prints on the 17th, it’s all good news about the forthcoming Area 9 clinic in St Andrews.

We have already filled 5 slots!! There are still some spaces available if you want to give side saddle a go in The Kingdom of Fife.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!

As part of Area 9’s back to back Penny Clarke clinics on 28th and 29th October, we are giving participants the opportunity to take part in a Right Shoulder Back Dressage Training Test.

This is a great chance to put your side saddle skills to the test with participants given the choice of an INTRO C or a PRELIM 7 test.

Rosettes will be awarded to Riders achieving over 70% Ruby, 65% - 70% Sapphire, 58% - 64% Amber and under 57% Emerald.

As well as your coloured Rosette, all RSB participants will receive a special “We Ride Like The Queen” rosette. While Her Majesty is no longer with us, we all remember her love of horses and contribution to the art of riding side saddle.

These clinics are all sold out now but if you have been lucky enough to grab a space and would like to take part in the RSB test, please get in touch and we’ll add it to your session. For any of our side saddle friends who cannot make our training weekend you can enter online and video your test to send to us for judging!

A great start to HOYS week for Jayne Ross on KBF Lucia, winning the Mears Flooring Ladies Side Saddle Horse of the Year Championship.

THE RIGHT SHOULDER BACK DRESSAGE TRAINING CLASS

A brilliant opportunity to put your side saddle skills to the test with our brand new Right Shoulder Back Dressage Training Class.

To take place on 28th/29th October throughout our 2 day clinic with Penny Clarke Show Horse and Side Saddle trainer and judge or for any of our side saddle friends who cannot make our training weekend you can enter online and video your test to send to us!

1. Riders will be judged individually during or at the end of their session with Penny

2. Test may be commanded.

3. Riders will enter the Arena at A. Riders must not start until the bell has rung.

4. After final halt/salute, the rider will make their way to C for their mark/comment sheet and rosette.

5. Rosettes will be awarded to Riders achieving over 70% Ruby, 65% - 70% Sapphire, 58% - 64% Amber and under 57% Emerald.

EXCITING NEWS!!

Area 9 committee member, Jade Paterson is off to the Awards tonight where she has been shortlisted for the Performer of the Year Award. This is in recognition of her outstanding first year competing at side saddle, which included appearances at HOYS and RIHS.

Jade was nominated for this award due to her outstanding results and performances at the highest level of Scottish and UK Equestrian Sport. Promoting equestrianism and being an ambassador for Scotland.

We are so chuffed for you Jade and we’ve got everything crossed for you tonight. GO GIRL!!!
