Subsequent to series of meetings and consultations, the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) for Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP), through its Chairman, the DENR Regional Executive Director Bagani Fidel A. Evasco now officially declares the yearly 3-month off-season by virtue of PAMB-EnBanc Resolution No. 06, Series of 2021.
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
It can be recalled that the DENR recommended a regular off-season for MANP during the SUB-PAMB meeting in March 31, 2021. The body has finally approved the resolution and shall commence immediately.
For 2021, the off-season, which means prohibition of all trekking activities, covers the months of July, August and September. On 2022 onwards, it shall be on the months of June, July and August to give way for the implementation of MANPโs rehabilitation, improvement of public services, disaster risk prevention, biodiversity preservation and strengthening of law enforcement mechanisms.
๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐
Through the collaborative efforts of DENR, LGU and MANP stakeholders, the action plan during the off-season will comprise greening program which include tree planting along the trails, seedling propagation and wildling collection as well as site adoption for the reforestation activities.
Further, apart from the conduct of policy review, it will also be the period for the improvement of infrastructures, installation of facilities, strengthening partnerships and collaborations which include capacitating the existing pool of guides, porters and Park Protection Officers (PPOs) as well as deputation of qualified individuals as law enforcers.
๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ โ๐๐๐โ
The PAMB holds MANP in high regard for vital reasons. On top of being the โFather of Philippine Mountainsโ, it is predominantly a biodiversity hotspot making it among the countryโs ASEAN Heritage Parks and Protected Areas proclaimed under National Integrated Protected Areas Systems or NIPAS. While it serves as a strong pillar of the countryโs cultural heritage, its wilderness is also of high value especially to Regions XI and XII being its major water source, respectively.
The off-season is therefore primed for the flora and fauna species to have an โundisturbedโ space and time especially that these months are the breeding or mating period of some bird species.
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Please be notified that this yearโs off-season covers Davao Region trails only. This therefore exempts that of Kidapawan, Makilala and Magpet trails. However, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) restricts outdoor activities in these areas including that of Davao City trails which means that it will be closed until further notice.
The simultaneous implementation of off-season for both regions shall commence in 2022.
Trekking activities shall automatically resume at the end of every off-season.

Sea Turtles locally known as Pawilkan are a highly migratory marine species and are at the top of the Internal Union in the Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red list. They are protected by law and play a critical role in biodiversity. Now these nesting sites, breeding and feeding patterns are threatened by human activities.
