Check out the innovative VR prototype by Philip Rosedale and his son August, a cutting-edge creation from their recently launched studio, IRL (In Reality Lab). Unlike traditional setups with head-mounted displays, this technology relies on expansive high-definition screens and a mechanism that stabilizes and tracks the user's head movements, offering a unique virtual reality experience.
𝗦𝗟'𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿, 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀: “Introducing an experimental VR prototype developed at IRL415 in 2023, coinciding with the buzz around the Apple Vision Pro. Unlike traditional VR headsets causing a slight delay between head movement and visual response, our innovative approach involves lying on a specialized headrest, surrounded by monitors. As you attempt to turn your head, the headrest detects muscle force and adjusts the displayed view accordingly. This eliminates the discrepancy between visual and vestibular feedback, reducing the nausea-inducing effect associated with conventional VR systems. By providing the expected visual feedback without actual head movement, our unique design offers a more comfortable and immersive virtual experience.” Read more: https://philiprosedale.substack.com/p/a-different-approach-to-vr

A beautifully crafted and meticulously detailed Second Life simulation inspired by Tsurugajo Castle in Japan, often known as "Samurai City," has come to life. This one stands apart from others with a distinctive twist—it receives funding from the Japanese government, courtesy of its tourist agency:
“This is the first time that a Metaverse project is being carried out in a specific location under the direct control of the Japan Tourism Agency. The idea is to spread it across the country as an advanced tourism model that utilizes digital technology.”
