Strong Like Her is aimed at creating equal opportunity and coverage for female sport news Female athletes are currently significantly underrepresented within the media and wider society. Despite growing numbers of female participants at both grassroots and high performance level, media coverage of females is significantly overshadowed by males. Not only do female athletes receive less coverage t

han their male counterparts, the way in which it is produced gives a more negative depiction of female athletes while reinforcing the gendered hierarchy of sport. This directly links to the value our society places on female athlete success, as well the way they are treated and compensated for their work.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT...

There’s no better time for media to take up these challenges. In 2022 and 2023, New Zealand hosts three women’s World Cups — in cricket, rugby and football — that attract global interest and television audiences in the millions. There won’t be any shortage of important women’s sport to cover.

It’s great seeing our young women doing cool things! All the best for the Tokyo Olympics Alisha Lovrich 👏 📸 🥇🥈🥉

It takes a sharp eye, a supple body and super-quick reflexes to be a top sports photographer, and Kiwi snapper Alisha Lovrich has prepared well for the Tokyo Olympics.
