Here is the insightful, hilarious introduction to the Woodstock special from John Knott, a man I'm proud to call my friend:
Imagine if you will 53 years ago this coming Monday, the year was 1969. Very much like today, the world had a sh*tload of troubles; the Vietnam War was raging, fighting in the Middle East was continuing to intensify and the Manson Family had just committed their brutally heinous acts in California. But on Max Yasgur’s 600 acre dairy farm in Bethel New York that weekend, history was made as nearly 500,000 people gathered to enjoy three days of peace, love and music not to mention endured stifling heat and humidity, mud, torrential rain, sleeplessness and hunger. What happened there on that weekend at Woodstock was what many call the defining moment of a generation.
And while some of the Baby Boomer/Hippie/Aquarian/Woodstock Generation let their hypocrisy and greed get the better of them forcing them to abandon their optimistic dreams of peace, love, unity, compassion, sharing, understanding and humanity later in life, becoming the most ill-tempered, self-entitled, know-it-all, racist, miserably angry conservative as****es the world has ever known, in 1969 they were for the most part optimistic that they could indeed change the world. Today they won’t let you forget that the music at Woodstock was ‘real’ music and the ‘best music ever created’ because their close-minded bu****it won’t let them see beyond the bifocals resting on the ends of their own noses. Now I am not directing this to ALL of the Boomers because the ones I do know are some of the coolest people you could ever hope to meet and clearly display that di*****ds can’t simply be defined generationally. I’ve met Generation X’ers, Millennials and Generation Z’ers who could outpace a Boomer any day when it comes to winning the title of the 'World’s Biggest As***le.' Hell, I went to high school with arguably the all-time greatest collection of pricks the world has ever known; the 1927 Yankees of prickdom if you will. But I digress…
If you want to pregame Woodstock Appreciation Week you’ll have the perfect opportunity. Coming up tomorrow morning at 7AM is my Woodstock 50th Anniversary show in where I successfully crammed three days worth of music into three hours! There is a song by EVERY performer who played the festival (including Bert Sommer and Keef Hartley), stage announcements from Wavy Gravy, Max Yasgur and lots of the PA guy Chip Monck, warning people about the brown acid and telling people repeatedly to get the hell off the goddamn towers in the nicest way possible! Airing tomorrow morning at 7-10AM!
