16/08/2024

: Vice-Chancellor Professor Tinyiko Maluleke hosted his monthly book review at Dinokeng Building 21 at the Pretoria Campus on Thursday, August 15th. This month, Professor Maluleke recommended a book by Dr. Gloria Tomatoe Serobe titled "An Ode to My Mother-in-Law."

Serobe explained that the book shares wonderful stories about mothers that are not often told.โ€œI wrote this book because I believe that stories of wonderful mothers are hardly told. The book particularly pays homage to my late mother-in-law, and gives an account of the relationship we shared, the teachings and lessons, difficulties, and most importantly, the love and support I received from her."

She said:"after I lost my mother, my mother-in-law came and slept beside me. As we were tossing and turning, she would put her hand on my shoulder. That was her way of letting me know that I still have a mother in her even after my tragedy."

Professor Maluleke highlighted some of his favorite quotes and discoveries from the book, โ€œI think the most striking aspect of this book by Dr. Gloria Serobe is the least obvious. When we read it, we must read all the lines. We must read between the lines. We must read above the lines. We must read behind and below the lines.โ€

Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) 's TUT- Directorate of Extracurricular Development PTA Campus hosted a memorable event, Women Crush Wednesday Conversations, on Thursday 07 August.

The event brought together students to celebrate women and address key issues affecting them including the issues related to Gender-Based Violance.

Young women spoke of thier vulnerability and a sense of feeling unsafe when in relationships with thier male counterparts.

The inaugural dialogues was a resounding success, fostering a sense of community and inspiring attendees to make a positive impact.

The speaker of the day Nomsa Kulehile encouraged women to take every opportunity to empower themselves.

โ€œIt is important to be meticulous about what you carry in your cup. If your cup has coffee, you cannot expect juice to flow in your cup. Your cup cannot overflow with what you do not have,โ€ she said.

The Conversations will be held every Wednesday in August.
