It's almost done! This door was not made from scraps. I didn't have enough 1x3 boards that were the right length, and I had to purchase the rods. I did have the hinges and handle.
Were you expecting this cabinet to be a dog crate? I know it is controversial, but the dog we adopted from my sister is crate trained, and he likes having his own "room." The cabinet can eventually be used as a regular cabinet.

Creating this cabinet shell with scrap wood did come with some challenges, but nothing a little bondo and elbow grease couldn't handle. So far, I haven't spent any money on materials for this project. All of what I am using is from previous projects.

Let's face it, we all have scraps of plywood in our garage. I've had some pieces for well over 6 years. I hate spending money on plywood, especially when buying half a sheet of plywood costs more per square foot than a full sheet, but sometimes, I'm left with offcuts. Yes, I am cheap. After all, don't we take on DIY projects to save money?
The scraps I used are made from cabinet grade pieces of plywood. This was perfect for my project.

This utility closet has always given me the ick. Since we had to have the HVAC replaced, I figured this was a great time to address the nasty floor. I couldn't do anything about the drain, pipes, or slope, but I could make it pretty. You know, because that improves functionality. 😂
My only regret is that I only had 1 stencil. A project this size is easier with at least 2 stencils so that you don't have to wait for the paint to dry before moving on to the next spot.

Over the past several months, our lights have been flickering. Not just a little, but nearly shutting off altogether. But this only happened when it was actively raining. This drove us and the power company crazy. They checked all the connections, replaced the underground line (which had hot spots), and swore it had to be on our end. We had an electrician come out and check everything. It wasn't on our side.
The linemen were all very helpful and answered our calls every time, there were a lot of them. I'm truly grateful that the issue is now resolved.

I was so terrified of grinding the cement that I put it off for almost a year. That is a long time. There is not one new skill that I have acquired over the years that did not cause me great anxiety. Here's my fool-proof way of baking perfect salmon every time.
Using my Cole & Mason salt and pepper mills allows me to adjust the grind from fine to coarse easily with just a turn of the knob. Each mill is made from durable acrylic. The salt mill has a ceramic mechanism to avoid corrosion over time and the pepper mill is fitted with a carbon steel blade that strips the peppercorn instead of crushing them.

I needed to remove the broken screw to replace it with a new screw. This is an easy fix that takes just a few minutes and only requires a couple of tools.
I didn't record the first step - drilling the hole larger or using a smaller drill bit to drill around the broken piece. You can also use a small dowel if you don't have toothpicks. I used what I had on hand.
