Key Achievements Of Okobo Local Government Chairman, Dr. Sylvester Attah between December 2020 to September 2023
Hon. Dr. Sylvester Attah, an alumnus of the University of Calabar and a native of Obufi - Okobuo Mbawa bloc in Okobo Local Government Area , holds a Doctorate degree in Accounting from University of Nigeria UNN, Nsukka.
He is an accomplished businessman and technocrat with tested experience and vast business interests in human relations and public administration.
Dr Attah, a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), introduced himself into the political arena in 2020 when he emerged as the Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Council till date.
While in office he contested as Executive Chairman he offered himself to represent Okobo in the State House of Assembly but was defeated by the incumbent member, Hon. Bassey Pius Bassey.
The Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Sylvester Attah, and his Vice, Honourable Deacon Asuquo Koffi assumed office on 7th December, 2020.
Since they assumed office, they have worked assiduously to impacts the lives of the noble people of Okobo local government area successfully.

Some achievements recorded covers education, security
physical and social infrastructure, Empowerment Impacts on People and welfare;
1) Payment of business grants to 60 women and vulnerable widows
2) Borehole drilling & water reticulation at the Council Secretariat Okopedi
3) Recovery & repair of Council-owned Toyota Camry and a Prado Jeep (Land Cruiser)
4) Payment of N125,000 grant to individual Nigerian Law School students
5) Grading of road leading to the Local Government Secretariat
6) Provision of a brand new generator for preservation of immunization vaccines at the Central Health Centre Okobo
7) Payment of medical bills and grants to victims of violent communal clashes between Okopedi and Amammong
8) Donation of brand new power generator to the National Information Management Commission to enhance NIN registration
9) Repair and maintenance of moribund generator to ensure adequate power supply at the Council Secretariat
10) Approval & payment of over N2 million backlog of financial aid to staff of the Unified Local Government Service (ULGS),
11) provision of financial assistance to parents/students of higher institutions to cater for schools fees
12) Payment of Bursary to students in higher institutions
13) Ongoing construction of a townhall in his home town Obufi (the project is 40% completed)
14) Ongoing repair work at the Women Development Centre office in Okobo
15. Procurement of two new vehicles and repair of two old ones for the vice chairman, leader of the legislature, secretary and head of service of the council
16. Payment of furniture allowances to councillors and Supervisory Councillors

Despite the heavy allocations, the Local Government Area have been heavily criticised as some of the many where huge fund receipts and infrastructural development have not been commensurate.
The G5 Local Government performance appraisal is a part of our accountability project which is aimed at highlighting crucial accountability and governance issues at the five local government areas of ORO in Akwa Ibom State.
In reality, local government administration is meant to pivot public goods and developmental projects at the grassroots as everyday people may never have the platform to make their demands known to the state governments. However, development has not yet thrived up to public expectations.
