Athens Issue for Volume 2:

Athens is a captivating city, that is both in equal parts fantastically ancient and modern, and a lot in between. Greece's capital boasts thousands of years of history, that is still an integral part of the city. However, Athens is more than the ever-present Acropolis, overlooking the city, or the Parthenon or all the ancient sites scattered throughout the city.

For Volume 2, I spent two weeks in Athens. These were feverish days in Athen's summer heat, as I was wandering its cobbled streets, exploring its corners and different neighbourhoods, some orange trees lined, others with graffiti or cats dozing off in the summer sun. For days, I was sampling Athens various foods, learned about its multi-cultural background and captured its unique atmosphere.

And above all: I met so many inspiring Athenians who so kindly shared their experiences with me.

I will be sharing more on VOLUME 2 - THE ATHENS ISSUE in the upcoming time on Instagram , so please join us there on this new journey as we get to know Athens through the eyes of Athenians.

Until very soon,
Katharina

Hello, we are CONTU. Founded in late summer 2021 and born out of the wish to create a city publication, I have set up a small publishing company. CONTU shows and portrays a city through their people. We get to know inspiring locals, explore topics and questions that are raised. The first and inaugural issue of CONTU was hence published in August 2021, independently and locally. VOLUME 1 — The Berlin Issue looks at Berlin. We are CONTU, a city publication with an altering city focus, giving candid insights, sharing genuine recommendations and celebrating slow travel journalism. Thank you for being here! — Katharina/ The founder

: After the fall of the Wall in October 1989, Germany and Berlin were reunified in 1990, East Berlin and West Berlin grew together, two countries became one. Three decades later, clichés of “the West” and “the East” seem to be kept alive. Does the “wall in the head” still exist? In conversations, we ask the question how Berliners have witnessed the fall of the Wall and the later reunification. This text cannot deliver any answers. It is rather a quest following traces. : Marie Janda is a German graphic designer based in Berlin-Neukölln. For Marie, Berlin was not the first choice. She moved to Berlin 1,5 years ago during her studies and moved to her partner in the borough of Neukölln. An area, that is often cited to be amongst the more tougher ones in Berlin. We met at the end of September in Kreuzkölln where she told us her inspiring journey to find beauty in Berlin which lead her to feel more at peace and ease with the city and how her camera has facilited this process. During her project work for her Bachelor's degree, Marie created a beautiful calendar filled with her photography and fitting quotes. We will learn more about how the idea came to be and how that encouraged and inspired her to change the perception in the full interview.

The full interview with Marie will be published in the upcoming first edition of CONTU Mag in English and German. A short article about Marie is now online in our Journal in German:
www.contumag.com/journal/berlin-marie-janda-grafikdesignerin
