This week has seen the Champion of Champion events at both Potters Resorts – Hopton-on-Sea and Five Lakes.
This was the first Champion of Champion weeks at Potters Five Lakes, and it did not disappoint, says bowls manager Gary Mackay.
“Not only was it a very competitive, fun, and warm atmosphere but it was lovely to welcome back so many familiar faces and winners from our first tournament year at the Five Lakes Resort.
“Everyone got right into the spirit of the week from the very outset, maybe because they knew, the eventual winning team would compete against the winners from Hopton’s own Champion of Champions week, play on the infamous World Indoor Bowls Championship rink on the final Sunday, in front of an audience too, or maybe, they just loved playing bowls and making some new friendships on holiday.
“Nevertheless, the final did not disappoint, and was closer than the eventual score would suggest. But the winners this week were the Colchester Oysters, consisting of Charles Barrett, Jan Howell, Brian Smith and Pam Smith. The came through the final game 9 – 2 victors, against the Horam Ginners of Brian Davies, Sylvia Davies, Clive Page and Julie Page. Overall, it has been a fabulous week, with great bowlers, wonderful friendships and a strong winning team to boot! Onwards now to the grand final at the WIBC at Potters Hopton-on-Sea, in January, and hopefully a win for Five Lakes again. The Lakers are coming!!
