ICYMI: Looking for an equal chance to solve a cold case.
This Black History Month, we looked into the under-representation of African Americans in DNA databases, which can be a hurdle for cold case investigations. We also looked at possible solutions to the problem.
"Some unidentified persons who are African American are harder to identify and it takes much, much longer to identify them," said Lisa Fanning, an investigative genetic genealogist.
COLD CASE: 10 years ago today, Stephen Halton Jr. was on the way to save someone else's life when he lost his own.
The 30-year-old Cleveland Clinic worker was on his way to help with an organ transplant when a someone shot and killed him as he waited at a bus stop in Cleveland. His children were 3 and 5 years old at the time.

NEW VIDEO: Rescue on the turnpike
A snap decision from Trooper Jose Molina with Ohio State Highway Patrol helped save a teen's life during a severe allergic reaction on the Ohio Turnpike over the summer. Paramedics also played a vital role when every minute counts. The trooper will be honored by Windham Fire Department with an award tomorrow.
COLD CASE: Toledo's Jane Doe
She was as young as 16 years old. Her body was found set on fire in an alley near a busy highway. She was wrapped in a carpet with a blue plastic bag over her head.
Who covered up what happened to this Jane Doe, and why? She died before the fire, and it was ruled an overdose.
Finding out who she was could help solve what happened to her.
