Zaid Steele, a college senior, aims to become a civil rights lawyer in her next chapter.

She’s an artist who uses music to spark change. Bob Marley is a prime example Zaid uses because he was all about bringing peace and freedom to his people. For her, it’s a confirmation that music and politics can go together. Music has the power to bring everyone together.⁣

Springtime is the best time to unwind and catch up on some good reads. As you enter the season of new beginnings, remember our team is counting down to the launch of our third magazine publication: Protect Your Peace. We have ten days before we release this must-have issue. "Every issue gets better and better," we've been told.

What can you find inside our latest issue? Inside, you'll find a journal with six prompts, short stories, tips on parenting, advice about avoiding burnout, a cover story featuring Ruth E. Griffin, an author, and so much more. Ruth tells her story about bipolar disorder and how she worked hard to eliminate external triggers to live wholesomely without battling against loved ones. ⁣Her breakthrough story could be the answer to your soul's prayers.

In the meantime, we want to leave you with an excerpt from an essay in our latest publication by Grace Pullum called "Imagining a World of Love, Unity, and Community." Enjoy!⁣

"I once heard someone say you're not a whole person if you remain silent. There will always be a piece of you hiding, waiting to come out. When we continuously deal with things in silence, alone, or hiding, we are never presenting our whole selves to our friends and family. We're never able to connect with those around us fully. We can deal with these issues that affect us once we put names to ideas and say out loud what we need of ourselves and others."

We're grateful to have Grace on our team! ⁣

Grace Pullum is an educator and writer specializing in African American Literature, specifically Black feminist writing and Postcolonial theory. She has received a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in African American Literature from the Illustrious North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. ⁣

She is dedicated to education and community. Heavily influenced by Audre Lorde's quote, "We know what it is to be lied to, and we know how important it is not to lie to ourselves. We are powerful because we have survived, and that is what it is all about-- survival and growth," Grace believes in the importance of education, knowing one's history, and speaking for the voiceless. As an advocate for the underserved and underrepresented, Grace hopes to evoke a sense of self-worth, pride, and belonging in the lives of those who come across her work.

There will be a time when you no longer fear the unknown. When this day comes, your eyes will be wide open to seek the universe’s infinite opportunities. The future will no longer seem threatening, and other people’s opinions will cease to matter. Once you consciously decide to change your mindset to elevate your life positively, the “leveling up” process will begin. Advancing to the next level of your life takes hard work and the willpower to want to achieve greatness. ⁣
