100 years ago today at the age of 15 years old, arguably, the greatest boxer to ever come out of the state of New Mexico, Pedro Chrisostomo Quintana better known as “Eddie Mack” made his professional debut.

He was born in Pojoaque, New Mexico and raised in Alamosa, Colorado. It was in New Mexico where he would start his professional boxing career. Quintana was the first New Mexican to beat a reigning world champion when he defeated Jr. Lightweight champ Tod Morgan twice in non-title fights.

Quintana held a professional record of 35-1-1, 25KOs by the time he graduated high school (with honors). He was ranked as high as #2 on The Ring Magazine at Jr. Lightweight. He finished his career with a record of 89 wins, 13 losses, 11 draws with 41 knockouts.

Quintana would work as a campaign manager, work in the insurance business, and become a investigator for the district attorney’s office in Santa Fe.

He would pass away on Aug. 17, 1946 as a result of a car accident. Quintana is buried at the Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
