The Back Road Radio Show''' is a one hour alt-country, roots, and Americana radio program, based in Central Indiana. It is hosted by Andrew Funke and Produced/Engineered by "Deacon" Tim Plunkett. The show is known for playing an eclectic mix of local, regional, and national artists in it's rather broad definition of Americana music. A major feature of the BRRS is it's frequent "Featured Headlight
Artists" segment, which can include regional and national acts but most often focuses on showcasing local talent from Indiana. Headlight Artist segments can range from playing songs by a particular artist, to phone interviews, to in-studio interviews and performances, and combinations thereof. The concept for the Back Road Radio Show was originally developed in August 2009 by Scott (Cootie) Crabtree, a well known musician in the Indianapolis area, for airplay on the non-commercial Indianapolis station WITT (91.9FM). Crabtree brought onboard his friends Wendy Gootee, now-host Andrew Funke, and local producer “Deacon” Tim Plunkett to help produce and promote the show each week. In November of 2009, Crabtree left the show due to unforseen circumstances, at which time Funke and Plunkett took control as host and producer, respectively. The first show featuring this new lineup aired on November 11th of 2009, with Funke techinically filling in for the absent Crabtree. The first show with Funke as the official host was aired on January 6th of 2010. Despite the change in lineup, the current team has strived to stay true to the BRRS' original vision of providing a public voice for Americana music and musicians who otherwise don't have one.
