India has added another shining milestone to its environmental achievements. Gogabil Jheel, located in Katihar district of Bihar, has officially been recognized as a Ramsar Site, marking it as a wetland of international significance. Spread across 86.63 hectares, this natural lake now joins the league of globally protected wetlands, strengthening India’s reputation as a leader in conservation, biodiversity protection, and ecological preservation.
This historic development places Bihar at the third position in India, following Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, in the number of Ramsar Sites within a state. This recognition not only increases the ecological value of Bihar but also strengthens India’s global standing in environment protection.
