Pages for Attic Zine No. 20, Blue 2

Georgia is one of my favourite Rubber Stamp Artists! She regularly sends me pages for my Zine and this makes me very happy indeed 💙 she has created and used some beautiful hand carved stamps here. The composition of these pages is perfect too. Negative and positive space dance together; a blue fish leaps out of a blue ocean; magenta shades form perfect contrasts with shades of sky and of sea. Thank you so much Georgia for your fantastic art 💙

Pages for Attic Zine No. 20, Blue 2

Striking and bold. Made up of foundational and powerful shapes. Dominated by tonal shifts in blue, but also reminded of other primary and secondary colours from the colour wheel. And then the punched holes in the blue squares of card lift the texture of these pages 💙 Lovely 💙 {Please click on the photo to see in full}

Lina Stern, Ukraine 🇺🇦

Pages for Attic Zine, Number 20, Blue 2

These amazing pages were inspired by Lina’s beloved ocean 🌊 when they arrived, I sensed the smell and movement of the sea in every fibre of the page, every brush stroke, every pencil line 🌊 Lina made these pages just before Putin invaded her beloved country. I pray for the day when all of humanity can learn to live as gently, fully and creatively as Lina. Thank you for your stunning art dearest Lina! In the comments section there is a photo of the reverse of these pages, where Lina has created a beautiful and delicate line drawing of a special stone she found on the beach 🌊💙

Jennifer Wallace, UK 🇬🇧

Pages for Attic Zine No. 20, Blue 2

Each of Jennifer’s pages was unique; each was so beautiful that it was tough to select just 2 to share with you all. I particularly love the collage on the first image! I am a huge fan of collage, and I love to see it in other artist’s work as well as practicing it myself. Jennifer has used her own unique papers in this piece - I get lost in each rounded edged rectangle with its unique pools of blue. Her placement of the yellow provides perfect contrast. The second image is a gorgeous textured print! A collograph I think... Again, the pooling and gathering of the blue pigments is enticing to me here, especially the concentrations of indigo around the spent circles of an old pill packet 🦋

Pages for Attic Zine No. 20, Blue 2

I absolutely love the texture of this print! The paper has a distinctive grain and Robert has used dense blue ink which stands out boldly. A very striking and dramatic piece of art 💙

Kimm Kiriako, USA 🇺🇸

Pages for Attic Zine No. 19, Blue 1

For the blue call, Kimm sent me some of the best pages I have ever seen! Kimm is one of my favourite ever artists, so I always fall in love with her work: these blue pages had me hooked in, besotted from the outset. Her feel for the nuances of blue is incredible. Moreover, every single page is unique, so when I look at them, I feel like I have entered an infinite paradise of blue. Here are just 2 examples of her creations: it was very very hard to only select a couple to show you. If you have a personal copy of this edition, and therefore have one of Kimm’s original blue pages, well, consider yourself very very lucky indeed 💙

Debra Laurent Tachibana, USA 🇺🇸

Pages for Attic Zine No. 19, Blue 1

The range of paper surfaces which Debra has selected for her pages is exquisite! I am a huge fan of paper and so I really appreciate the thought and sensitivity she has put into her choices. Her use of colour is also brilliant: her blues are delicate like eggshell. Debra also incorporates Rubber Stamp Art to great effect! Strong shapes and lines float over each other and over blocks of language. There is a peacefulness to these pages which I find serene 🌊

Bruno Chiarlone, Italy 🇮🇹

Pages for Attic Zine No. 19, Blue 1

Bruno’s dynamic pages make use of paper ephemera and marker pens. His composition resembles an explosion - one of colour and expressive mark making. I also see two doorways here, and arrows pointing East and West 🌎🌏🌍

Michael Leigh, United Kingdom 🇬🇧

Pages for Attic Zine No. 19, Blue 1

Michael Leigh is one of my favourite Rubber Stamp Artists! I am always delighted when he submits pages to my Zine. For the blue call, he sent rubber stamp totems consisting of 3 icons. The top motif is Aztec-like; the middle resembles Mickey Mouse; the bottom icon says A1 - a name Michael often uses for his paper creations. These selections and their juxtaposition are decisions of genius 💙🌟💙

Amanda Earl, Canada 🇨🇦

Pages for Attic Zine No. 19, Blue 1

Amanda created 20 unique Bluebirds of Upper Zygonia for her submission. I am a big fan of Amanda’s personal utopia, and I love all of the drawings she creates in order to explore this place further. These birds are proud, majestic. They stand tall, their plumage on full show. They sport lettering - large Bs on chests - a pun on words or bras perhaps? Love these pages 💙🐦💙🐦💙
