The Para-Sight Story
In the mid-eighties I switch professions from being a live performing musician to an audio engineer both on the road and in the studio. The owner recorded and released mostly folk and blues music. I, being the young guy on the staff started to bring in rock bands of the area. After a successful release by one of the rock acts I produced on the Bennett House Label, I decided t
o try my hand at creating my own label: Para-Sight Records. The name stemmed from an underground, alto mentality meaning, having forward vision for the music and the desire to some day jump on the back of a "big dog" record label. After a few failed experiments that never got released Para-Sight was put on the map by a band that I worked with doing live sound and who had already had a major label top 40 hit: The album was Cry Thunder by Steel Breeze. Cry Thunder was released in 1989 was a instant hit with fans and reviewers. With distribution through record store chains Tower Records and Underground Records we were well on our way...
Into the nineties, Para-Sight created a solid roster of acts that played well into the new emerging AAA radio (Adult Alternative Album) format. During that decade, multiple quality products were released. Rising industry recognition and critic acclaims. Then the big dog came bringing world wide distribution. Unfortunately it was short lived due to the parent company folding. Recovering from that came the best two releases of the era. Done on low budgets with mostly in house gear came Tim Riley’s “Art for Commerce" and “Lasers and Saviors" by the cult heroes Legs On Earth. In the new millennium came a string of albums by the amazing award winning, soulful singer, Shay Dillon. Most notable was the hit single "Holdin’ On." As time went on and the format changed from CDs to streaming, the company focused more on the studio and the production end of the business, allowing artists and other companies to release as they wished. Thus, PSR Recording Studio was established and has become the center of Para-Sight. Now in the 2020’s I have decided to resurrect a limited version of the old label. Many of the old releases as well as new releases will be available as downloads and on CD from the Para-Sight Records Bandcamp site.
