Varla Dogwood Films Varla Dogwood Films was formed to produce CAN'T STOP THE SHOW: THE RETURN OF KIX. Varla Dogwood focuses on music-based documentaries.

Varla Dogwood, LLC formed after a meeting between partners Dale Jackson and Steve Nerangis. Dale had directed an award-winning film called MAXWELL STEIN, and he screened the film at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Wi******er, VA, which is owned by Steve. The two became friends after the screening. Dale went on to create a Roku station called Zom-Bee TV and asked Steve to host a music show called Th

e White Label Lounge. The show was also produced by influential music supervisor Paul DiFranco and filmmaker Andrea Sakellaropolous, and featured co-host and comedian Pete Buchbauer. During filming of the show, Dale and Steve met KIX and Rhino Bucket guitarist Brian Forsythe. Brian invited Steve, Dale and Andrea to film the making of the KIX album "Rock Your Face Off," and that filming led to the feature documentary CAN'T STOP THE SHOW: THE RETURN OF KIX. The film was released on Loud and Proud Records in October of 2016 and reached #1 on the Billboard music DVD charts. Just before the release of the documentary, Varla Dogwood, LLC was formed by filmmkaers Dale Jackson, Steve Nerangis, and partner/legal counsel John Petrolino.

2017 and 2018 will see the release of three new music documentaries from Varla Dogwood Films, including collaborations with filmmaker Andrea Sakellaropoulos and music supervisor Paul DiFranco.

Check out the crowdfunding campaign for the new horror short SHINING IN THE DARK. We are helping produce and clear music for the very talented director Ariel Baska. https://seedandspark.com/fund/shininginthedark

Shining in the Dark is a horror story that explores the intersection of disability, grief and tentacles. Join us in the haunted world of the mind's eye, as a blind projectionist at an old-school movie-house mourns for her daughter and faces the darkness closing in around her.

We are currently running a Seed&Spark campaign for our next feature documentary, HAMMERJACKS: THE ROCKUMENTARY. We plan...

We are currently running a Seed&Spark campaign for our next feature documentary, HAMMERJACKS: THE ROCKUMENTARY. We plan to release the film on October 8, so we are funding post-production. Take a look at the campaign if you get a chance. https://seedandspark.com/fund/hammerjacks-the-rockumentary

The name Hammerjacks is still recognized by rock fans around the world, even though the storied concert hall closed in 1997. The venue captured "lightning in a bottle", and we are determined to document the spirit of abandon...and community...that made Hammerjacks legendary.

Our short (THE MAKING OF) PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME PLAY PIANO MAN is in a lottery to screen on Friday night with SCREAM IT OFF SCREEN. 15 films are chosen in a lottery to compete. Viewers get to vote to "keep" or "gong" each short. Even if our short isn't screened, this sounds like an event that is just strange enough to keep me up past my bedtime.
