You have just ten days to enter Ireland's Own writing competition for 2023. As well as the short story prizes, there is a "Memories" prize: "we are asking entrants to tell us of some special moment or event in not more than 800 words. It could be about school, holidays, falling in love, getting married, emigrating, a special person you have known, etc. This section carries a first prize of €200 and four runners-up prizes of €100". Deadline 29th September. Entry fee €10.

The Nature Chronicles Prize opened for entries on the 1st September, and will close on 15th January - so you have plenty of time to write a piece of non-fiction between 2,000 and 8,000 words on a contemporary nature theme. The Women's History Scotland Leah Leneman Essay Prize is now open, for "an essay on an aspect of women’s or gender history, focused on any time period and geographical area". £200 prize. Deadline: 18th December.
Forms of work that may be submitted include: undergraduate dissertation, postgraduate work (e.g. Masters dissertation or chapter of PhD), a piece of original research by students or independent scholars.

Unpublished writers of colour have a month to enter the Morley Gallery / Morley College London Prize. Narrative works of non-fiction are accepted (fiction too). “To enter with a work of non-fiction, you will need to submit a detailed summary of the work of not more than 30 pages, including a table of contents and a coherent 3,000 word writing sample.” For more info, click the link.

Manuscripts may be submitted under a pseudonym, but the applicant’s legal name should be included in the application itself to ensure compliance with the prize rules.
