It's officially 10 years ago since former Z-Rock guru, G-Force mentor, and former WMET and Loop radio legend WILD BILL SCOTT died. We learned today that STORMIN' NORMAN DAVIS has died. Norman hosted RIGHTEOUS ROCK on Z-ROCK, and was a founding member of KSAN-FM in San Francisco, America's first album rock radio station. In the early days of G-Force, Davis did voice overs for the station. Rest in peace brother in sound! Photo: (L-R) Wild Bill Scott, The G-Ster, and Stormin' Norman Davis.

If you grew up in the 1970s in Chicago, you probably recall the popular radio jock CAPTAIN WHAMMO, who rocked out on WDHF, later known as WMET-FM 95.5. WHAMMO was actually JIM CHANNELL, who became a born again Christian, and walked away from his gig at WMET. Later, he would join Christian radio stations such as WCFL-AM, and host the national "CHRISTIAN COUNTDOWN AMERICA" syndicated rock show for 10 years, airing Sunday nights on G-Force 1330. He passed away yesterday at his home in Florida, after battling a two-year illness. Prayers out to his family, and fans!

The elusive former G-Force "G-man" himself, was seen last week at the 2023 Jerome Indie Film & Music Festival, in the Arizona mountains. G-Ster has been involved in many film projects over the years, and is clearly still alive and causing mayhem! Cheers to you brother, for bringing metal to the airwaves of Chicago back in the day!

A bit of forgotten Chicago hard rock radio history, "RIGHTEOUS ROCK" the Christian rock program. "RIGHTEOUS ROCK" originally started on Z-ROCK 106.7 FM in 1986, on Sunday mornings at 8am, hosted by rock radio veteran STORMIN' NORMAN DAVIS. After Z-Rock left the airwaves, G-FORCE 1330 would revive the show in 1989, hosted by THE G-STER, Sunday nights at 6pm. In the summer of 1990, the show would move back to 106.7 FM (WYLL), and rebranded at "RIGHTEOUS ROCK SATURDAY NIGHT" at 8pm. This program was the only commercial outlet to broadcast bands such as BARREN CROSS, PETRA, HOLY SOLDIER, BELIEVER, LIAISON, and REZ. "RIGHTEOUS ROCK" would leave the airwaves following Thanksgiving 1990, after new WYLL owners SALEM MEDIA, objected to the hard rock music format.
