I loved writing a series of stories based on interviews with people who have experienced homelessness for community services agency Lutheran Care.
Here's the first piece, from Jay, an eloquent and well educated 'warrior mother' of triplets who lived with her gorgeous cherubs in emergency motel accommodation for 4.5 months. She is doing an amazing job to keep them happy and safe, and protect them from experiencing childhood trauma like what she has survived.
I loved chatting with Jay and it really made me realise how homelessness can happen to anyone.
As a single mum of triplets experiencing homelessness, there was nothing more important to Jay* than protecting her children as best she could from experiencing trauma, so extra baggage would not be theirs to bear into their futures.
