Next stop is September elk only a few months away! I am so thankful to have successfully drawn the Colorado elk tag in the unit and myself wanted to hunt for the 2024 season! The anticipation to be back in the rockies is rising at a rapid rate, so the preparation starts now!

I'm not gonna lie I'm missing turkey season right about now. The season closed here on the home turf almost two weeks ago, and since then I've done a lot of contemplating. The first year in many years I went without punching a tag, and it definitely wasn't for lack of effort. After a swing and a miss on my second outing of the year it lit a fire under me to get some redemption. After a slew of wrong choices, impatience from a burning to desire to succeed, and uncooperative birds it finally came down to the point where I simply just wanted to prove to myself I haven't completely lost it. I mean come on it's turkey hunting it's not supposed to be this mentally taxing (haha yeah right!) Well, long story short it just didn't happen... God had other plans and I'm convinced it was to teach me lessons I didn't know I needed to learn; lots of hunting related lessons obviously but truthfully a fair amount of life lessons that stand out as well... Until next time, now we prepare for September!

Just here to fill feeds with the beauty of some of God’s mighty handiwork…

What a trip this turkey hunt was; all too short lived, but never a moment without some kind of action! The Merriam’s turkeys may have lived to see another day, but they sure were close to their fate on several occasions. One of the best parts, the part I honestly crave almost as much as the goal that brings me to the state… the scenery!

A rainy, foggy morning on the home front breaking way for a small window of late morning opportunity to hunt hard. Still trying to fill the first tag… it’s been one of the toughest seasons I’ve had in a long time. Some of it is my fault, missing perfectly good opportunities right out of the gate, and some of it is days of just shaking my head in frustration or disbelief due to a plethora of circumstances. Despite the struggles I always come back for more; call me crazy but I can’t help myself! When spring is around I’m a turkey hunter!

Turkey season… the one time of year I lay the bows aside and pick up the trusty turkey gun to hit the woods! This year has started out way harder than anticipated and it’s bugging me way more than it should.

6 Turkeys called in, 1 shot has been fired, and 0 turkeys have met their fate.

What a weekend to have chosen to compete at a national event severely unprepared!

Having only had my new TITLE three full days before showing up to the second Pro/Am of the year (my first) was without a doubt a bold move. But, in the days prior to the tournament building the bow and getting as ready as I possibly could in a small window of time I had fired well over 200 arrows; getting back into shooting shape fairly quickly. I also spent an entire day to myself on the local 3D range to judge yardage, study my equipment, and mentally prepare; I felt great… However the preparation I crammed into such a short time was not enough to prepare me for the elements we found ourselves shooting in. Day one was absolutely wet, with almost an entire day full of a steady and sometimes pouring rain leaving every ounce of gear soaked. This caused a fair amount of disappointing shots leaving most everyone including me scrambling to learn how to adjust on the fly. Day two, was quite the opposite with gorgeous weather but the dreaded wind decided to rear its ugly face…
All that said, it truly was great to be back at this great sport of archery that I love! And, most of all it lit a fire in my drive to turn up the heat on my game!

Putting in the work!

From the new TITLE being delivered yesterday to busting out tight arrow groups at 50 yards today. One more full day of prep before I leave for my first ASA tournament of the season. Hit a national tournament having only had a bow for 3 days? What could possibly go wrong!? Just time for a “full send”!
