Kheiro Magazine An online magazine covering justice in a globalized world. Kheiro Magazine: where law, politics and culture collide.
(1)

Kheiro (pronounced kee-roh) is an online magazine dedicated to defending liberal ideals of freedom and equality at a time when growing numbers of politicians and citizens around the world are embracing reactionary, anti-democratic and isolationist policies. Named in honor of the method of voting used in the world’s first popular assembly in ancient Athens, our mission is two-fold: to examine this

“anti-liberal” phenomenon, and to propose solutions developed through a multi-disciplinary, international perspective. We distinguish liberalism — a worldview that embraces equality, democracy and rule of law — from left-wing politics. Attacks on liberal values come from both sides of the political spectrum, and in today’s inter-connected world, events in one country are bound to cause political, social and economic waves in others. We are interested in exposing wrongs, celebrating rights and proposing solutions. We aren’t giving up, and we hope you won’t either.

Exit polls found that in 2016, the Supreme Court was the "most important" factor among 27% of Trump voters compared to just 19% of Clinton voters. The difference in priorities speaks to a broader failure of the Democratic Party leadership when it comes to the federal courts, Nico Brancolini argues. Will the be enough to finally change that?

Democrats must finally campaign against corporate interest judges who dominate the Supreme Court

"The organization, which protects and defends adversarial journalism, said it aimed to protect publications from what it calls the 'billionaire problem,' or the ability of news figures to buy publications with the intent of taking them offline, along with any unfavorable prior coverage. [...] In an interview on Wednesday, Parker Higgins, director of special projects at the Freedom of the Press Foundation, said he hoped buyers’ inability to totally eliminate past coverage would discourage anyone from trying. 'The hope is: If you know that this kind of attack won’t scrub the internet of this kind of content altogether, maybe it won’t be worth undertaking the attack in the first place,' he said."

The Freedom of the Press Foundation will make copies of content from sites that it thinks are at risk of being defanged by wealthy buyers.
