urrently getting my butt kicked busheling on the coast which means probably not a lot of new content for a bit 🙃 but luckily I still have some stuff from year ✌️ at the ski resort I’m looking forward to sharing. It will easily go down as one of the best jobs I’ve ever had. Great trees, living in Tahoe, awesome people. I was certainly challenged by the terrain and grew tremendously in my skill set. Thankful for the experience and this next one to come!

didn’t take this for granted! 🙏🏻 Almost a week now since ending the redwood job. The night before we left the coast I met up with a couple of foresters that helped plan this job (thanks IG for introducing us 🙃). They shared that this was some of the nicest redwood they had seen. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all this size (of course I share the good ones on here), but on average there was nicer timber than you typically come across on cutting sites these days, or so I’ve heard. To have the opportunity to add this to my timber cutting bucket list was a dream. I might not get a chance to cut redwood like this again until I’m an old timer myself.
Not sure what’s next now cutting wise, but until then I’m eager to share a few more nice trees from this job 😊 I’ll miss it!

Throughout my career I’ve had the opportunity to meet some amazing, experienced men in the industry. I’m happy to have recently gained another mentor, Ron. He worked in the “right” generation of logging, has cut old growth redwoods, worked all over the west coast, and has probably witnessed some of the best and some of the worst. Myself, as someone who is not only a bit unconventional in this industry, but has an unconventional background (I’m from the Midwest, have a background in climbing, I’m not second or third generation, etc), I’m never sure how I’ll be perceived. Sometimes it can be intimidating meeting such experienced and long time men in the industry. But Ron is up there as one of the nicest, most accepting, and intelligent men I’ve gotten to work with. Ego can run rampant in the industry, but not with him. He is humble and willing to extend his knowledge to help. He advocates for taking the time to make a nice stump, and that the smooth and steady folks with quality work and good decision making end up being the fastest in the long run, something that I resonated with continuing to work on. Very thankful for the opportunity to hang out with him for a couple of weeks, as I know not everyone who works for him gets to do. This picture is from a gnarly rotten back leaner we jacked over. Until next time! 🙏🏼 .

You think timber fallers are bad ass until you meet/watch a helicopter pilot 😆
