For the record, it was 100% user error. The pattern is so straight-forward that I got a little overconfident and played fast and loose with *actually* reading it.

Another sweater from my “someday I will knit this” collection from college. Adjusted for non-bulky gauge yarn, multiplying given numbers by 1.307

I have also eliminated the large cable chart on the front in favor of working a steek and installing a zipper.
