Mel Brooks will be appearing live after a 50th Anniversary screening of his classic film, "Blazing Saddles" at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. We were honored to have worked with Mel on his "Young Frankenstein Original London Cast Recording", which featured a few themes from the score to the movie "Young Frankenstein" composed by the late John Morris. We've gotten some notes from customers asking where to find The Punisher at Record Store Day as their store is either 'sold out' or never carried it. RSD stores aren't required to carry any listed release (but most carry at least 1 of every release) BUT I know our distributor has a few left in their warehouse so ask your store to special order one this coming week if they are telling you it's not in stock or sold out. If they use AEC (the biggest wholesaler in the world based in the USA) or go direct to our distributor, quantities are there for them. We visited a few stores today, if you live near Fingerprints in Long Beach they had 3 when we checked and Bionic here in Cypress has a couple. If you frequent the bigger indie stores in your area ask them to check with their distributor as the label knows they can still get one, two or a few. Thanks for your interest in this great score and we do thank you for your support of us and Record Stores nationwide.

Also check RSDMRKT.com (official RSD site) on Monday and I'm told they offer all releases that still have quantities at distributor warehouses (many of the listed titles I'm told).

Versus is a brilliant horror/action/sci-fi film from acclaimed director Ryuhei Kitamura. The score matches the style of the movie to a tee - fast paced, pulsating and fun. Dennis Dreith - The Punisher - Original Motion Picture Score

Notefornote Music is proud to reissue the original score to the 1989 action film, The Punisher starring 80's action icon, Dolph Lundgren. This was the first ever film to adapt the famous Marvel Comics character to the big screen. This is a 2-LP set and the first time this score has ever been released on vinyl.

Dolph Lundgren is Frank Castle an ex-cop who lives in the sewers and acts as judge, jury, and executioner to the city's criminals in retaliation for the unpunished murders of his wife and kids. Frank's ex-partner Jake (Louis Gossett Jr.) finally catches up with the vigilante as he tries to stop the Japanese mob, which is trying to take over the city's mafia operation.

Dennis Dreith has been the composer for such films as Purple People Eater (1988) and The Punisher (1989). He also known in the industry as an orchestrator and conductor of film music scores. His work can be heard in the soundtracks of Jurassic Park, Misery, Braveheart, Addams Family Values, Sleepless in Seattle, Heart and Souls, A League of Their Own and others. He has orchestrated and conducted for several well-known composers including John Williams, Lalo Schifrin, Dominic Frontiere, Marc Shaiman, Hans Zimmer, Elliot Goldenthal, Mark Isham and Cliff Eidelman.

We here at Notefornote Music are proud to announce that we just snagged our first ever exclusive release for April Record Store Day! Yes, we've had releases in the November Black Friday RSD event in the past (2 releases), but this is the one we've been working to be part of for years and we achieved that goal!

The Punisher, composed by Dennis Dreith, will be part of the RSD celebration scheduled for April 20, 2024 nationwide. We suggest that you let your local RSD affiliated indie record store know you'd love to get this title (this helps them decide how much to order even though it's not a guarantee that any store gets the exact amount they order). This is a limited edition of 900 units and is making it's debut on vinyl for the first time ever. The Punisher is a black vinyl edition but we cut it at 45 RPM and judging from the test pressings we listened to, it sounds wonderful!

Please support the label and pick this release up if you are a fan of bold action scoring. A sell out helps us find more unheralded gems and get them the opportunity to be considered for this important event. This music is such a great and underrated score to a film that doesn't get enough love in an age where the Punisher character is as big as ever.

UPDATE: We are switching up our focus and fully utilizing our distribution deal with MVD Entertainment to push more of our physical offerings to retailers and wholesalers worldwide. Between issues of preorder manufacturing delays beyond our control, waiting for autographs to arrive, returned packages from overseas (thanks to customs policies we can't control it is adding up in costs and BTW we have not raised our rates in quite a while) with ever increasing postal costs which are becoming so hard to up with and refusing to pass them on to you. Utilizing a distributor more than we have in the past (which was Bryon's specialty when working for Varese as the head of sales before he switched over to work on A&R projects at the label) means we can move more units at once and create a more stable and predictable business to ensure a more steady income stream monthly. This will mean more release opportunities, more opportunities to find interesting 80s, 90s and early 2000s indie film scores to release (horror, sci fi and action films are our preferred releases) and find some cool gems like we did with Holocaust and a few other releases we are super proud of releasing. So the gist of this post is that distribution handling things means more time for me to work on finding the interesting gems our label is sort of known for!

2024 is shaping up to be a big year for us as our partnerships and new focus have netted us exclusive color LP deals on 4 releases, some cool upcoming soundtrack archival releases for LP and possibly CD, depending on interest, and other exciting non soundtrack deals. We did start an email list for fans of the label to get special deal updates and such so please sign up if you like.

Versus is a brilliant horror/action/sci-fi film released in 2000 from acclaimed director Ryuhei Kitamura. The score matches the style of the movie to a tee - fast paced, pulsating and fun. This is the first time the score to Versus has been released on vinyl. We worked closely with the director to get this ready. This will be a 2xLP contained in a gatefold with a Japanese OBI style strip.

The release is limited to 300 copies (Mondo will be getting an exclusive color in January and will be selling a limited quantity of 500 for that variant). For our website, we will be offering 60 copies only (our deal with our distributor means we will have a small batch so we can fill the orders for stores wanting to stock it). The rest will be available from your favorite retail stores and sites. So if you want to support us directly with your pre-order, please do, but if you want to order from stores such as Amazon.com and indie store websites/physical locations, we appreciate that as well (and so will they!).

Units will ship faster than in past releases as we are forgoing autographed releases for the time being. Delays and waiting for signed jackets/booklets causes most delays and we want to be able to just start shipping these immediately from the plant.
