Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov will receive the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, but it's a symbolic award for all journalists facing the diminishing respect for press freedom.

World News Day 2019

World News Day was marked in Asia, Africa and Europe by the World Editors Forum on September 28, 2019. This date coincided with UNESCO’s International Day for Access to Information.

World News Day was initiated by the Canadian Journalism Foundation in 2018 and celebrated in North America on May 3, 2018 and May 2, 2019.

At a time when journalism is under threat, being falsely accused of disseminating misinformation and experiencing eroded levels of trust, the need to proactively celebrate and remind all stakeholders (the public, law and policy makers, and the news industry itself) of the critical role journalism plays in society has never been greater.
