Travels In Constants
Opaque Yellow Colored Vinyl (Edition of 1,000)

Sometime in 2001 – sandwiched between the release of Ghost Tropic and its follow-up, the cryptic classic, Didn't It Rain – Songs: Ohia recorded an EP for Temporary Residence's distance-themed subscription series, Travels In Constants. The untitled EP consisted of a single 18-minute song – performed live by Jason Molina in his living room, recorded directly to 4-track cassette as the sounds of a typical Chicago night bled through the air. Built solely from an acoustic guitar and Molina's familiar melancholy croon, it's a hauntingly intimate track. Molina once remarked that it was "probably too out there" for a proper Songs: Ohia album, which is perhaps why is felt right at home in this context. Scarcely available in its original CD-only edition of 1,000 copies, Travels In Constants has finally been remastered and reissued for vinyl and digital formats. Completing this reissue is "Howler," another unusually lengthy Songs: Ohia track that, like “Travels In Constants”, was recorded and released in 2001 in an edition of only 1,000. These tracks are amongst the most abstractly beautiful and alarmingly delicate music that Molina ever committed to tape. It's an honor to finally make it properly available for the world.

The Exit Papers

At the turn of the 21st Century, nestled between two of their most iconic albums – Secret Name and Things We Lost In The Fire – Low released The Exit Papers as part of Temporary Residence Ltd.'s long-running CD subscription series, Travels In Constants. A sparse suite of six mostly instrumental pieces composed for a film that never existed, The Exit Papers still stands as Low's most haunting and experimental work. Originally released exclusively on CD in a scarce edition of only 1,000 copies, Low helped celebrate the 20th anniversary of Temporary Residence Ltd. back in 2016 by finally releasing The Exit Papers on vinyl and all digital formats for the first time ever.

Vol. 2 is the second volume in MONO (Japan)'s annual EP series that commemorates the Christmas holiday. Originally released digital-only as a Bandcamp exclusive, Heaven Vol. 2 is now available on limited-edition Snowlar Eclipse colored vinyl 10” record (edition of only 400)!

Composed and recorded once again by Takaakira "Taka' Goto at his Studio Forty-4 in Tokyo (with drums recorded in New York by James Brown, Heaven Vol. 2 was produced by Goto and Jeremy deVine, and mixed and mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri and deVine at Irisarri's Black Knoll Studio in October 2023.

Eureka! The inimitable William Basinski is launching a new series dedicated to the discovery and recovery of his life’s work. Branded Arcadia Archive, it is an homage to Basinski’s legendary Brooklyn loft of the 1980s and 90s.

September 23rd is the first release in Basinski’s new Arcadia Archive series. Recorded in September 1982 in his first loft in the pre-gentrified DUMBO neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, September 23rd is a recently unearthed early entry in what has become a hugely inspirational and influential catalog.

Built from a piano piece that Basinski composed in high school in the mid-1970s, September 23rd quickly evolved into a vastly different work. As Basinski explains: “The original piano recordings were made on a piano belonging to my downstairs neighbor, John Epperson – later known more famously as world-renowned drag artist, Lypsinka – at 351 Jay Street aka Casa Degli Artisti, our first loft in New York. It was recorded with a little portable (probably Radio Shack) cassette deck sitting on the piano as I improvised a piece I had been working on since high school. It was pretty terrible, but when I did the John Giorno/William Burroughs cut-up technique, suddenly I had something to put through the Frippertronics loop and feedback loop tape delay system – and boy did I get results. A very prolific time for a young, wacked-out queen in NYC.”

Our very own June McDoom tells her story and how she got here in the critically-acclaimed video series, “Song That Found Me At The Right Time”, made by @soundsofsaving – a non-profit mental health organization – in partnership with @988lifeline . This one features June McDoom taking on the classic Judee Sill song, “Emerald River Dance”. SoS sat down with the singer/songwriter to discuss her mental health journey and specifically what Judee Sill’s song “Emerald River Dance” has meant to her. In keeping with the series, McDoom and collaborator Evan Wright also performed the song exclusively for Sounds of Saving. This was filmed this past spring at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Watch their performance, which appropriately feels like a collaboration with nature itself—birds singing, leaves rustling and nylon strings plucking. Link in 🕊️🦋
