“I write about what I see going on with everybody and our climate. I’m walking the same path you’re walking and everyone else is walking today. And without having to expound on where we are as a nation, everybody is hurting…. And it is very unsettled. I mean, who isn’t living with uncertainty right now? You tell me.”
— Jakob Dylan, speaking with me in 2010 upon the release of his sophomore solo LP Women + Country.
This interview was first published 15 years ago today, April 7, 2010.
Throughout this conversation, some of Dylan’s elusive yet insightful observations (expressed in a way not all that unlike his father’s) would serve the erstwhile Wallflowers frontman just as well in discussing the social and cultural zeitgeist of today.
This is among the Top 10 interviews I’ve conducted over the last two decades, and I’m happy to share it here today.
"Yeah, in one sense none of it’s personal, but it’s all personal because it occurred to me." -- Jakob Dylan
