"It's layering on these messages and it's doing it in a really human way that allows people to connect with us because it really is about some form of human connection and that's what we believe we offer vs big tech. And so that personality really has to flow through.

That's about copywriting, it's about imagery. It's about being in the right places and targeting the right people. It's a bit of an art, and a science as well. I think Karen who does this for us is really really amazing at getting that right."

Thrilled to be mentioned by Kelli Fairbrother, co-founder and CEO of xigxag in the latest podcast episode of Jimmy's Jobs of The Future. Her insights on building a genuine connection and putting the user experience at the heart of the business are spot on, and why I love working with this company. 💜

I'm attending Ad World Conference this year, the world's largest online advertising event. Can't wait to hear from the biggest and brightest in the industry.

My most anticipated speaker is definitely Rory Sutherland from Ogilvy. I've been a fan since I listened to his incredible book Alchemy on xigxag and I'm looking forward to more of his marketing wisdom and insights on human behaviour.

An interesting article from NY Times about the Facebook outage we experienced this week and the impact it had on businesses both externally and internally.

I posted recently about diversifying your marketing channels to reduce reliance on a single platform (or group of platforms in the case of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp), and the outage is yet another reason why this is crucial for businesses.

Social media platforms are merely rented spaces, so your overall marketing strategy should always ensure they aren't your only connection to your customers.

When apps used by billions of people worldwide blinked out, lives were disrupted, businesses were cut off from customers — and some Facebook employees were locked out of their offices.

Don't even think about doing this.

Now, more than ever it's so important to diversify your customer acquisition channels. Being reliant on a single platform is a risk that you can't afford to take. Take a step back and look at the bigger picture and you'll see that multiple platforms work together brilliantly to increase your impact and drive your CPA down.

Here are some combinations currently working for us on paid app campaigns:
Apple Search Advertising
Google App Campaigns
Facebook Ads

Here's what we're looking forward to testing next:
PPC
Pinterest
TikTok

Add this to organic social, email marketing, notifications, affiliate marketing and influencer outreach and you've got a diverse customer acquisition, engagement and retention model that will balance out any volatility.

Are your eggs all in one basket?

“The trouble with market research is that people don’t think what they feel, they don’t say what they think, and they don’t do what they say.” Quote by Rory Sutherland.

Do you agree? Have you ever assumed you understood your customer only to realise you were way off base?

According to Facebook, video ads now drive 39% more conversions that static images. Rather than being driven by targeting or media placement, it's creative quality that makes all the difference.

Here's a summary of Facebook's 11 tips to improve video creative for advertising from Search Engine Journal.

My suggestion for #12 - Always keep testing.

Isn’t this a beautiful view? 🌊

I’ve just returned from a short holiday with the family. Sunshine, fresh air, the ocean and a change of scene was just what we all needed. Q4 is going to be a busy one so I’m grateful for a chance to rest and refresh.

How’s your summer going? ☀️🌧😬

Are you ready for the next stage of the new normal?

I don’t know about you, but sometimes it feels like there will never be a return to how it used to be. And that’s ok. We move, we change, we evolve.

This applies to the pandemic, but it also applies to Facebook Ads. Things are very different to how they were a year ago, and so a fresh and dynamic approach is required.

One thing is for sure, there is still plenty of opportunity for small businesses to make a big impact. If that’s you and you need help to scale, get in touch. Q4 planning starts now. 🚀

Lovely to be included on the book recommendations. My choice Alchemy by Rory Sutherland challenges our assumptions about human behaviour and how marketing sometimes needs to be a little less about the data and a little more open to bold ideas. I listened to the audiobook on and it definitely adds something when read by the man himself.

Check out the rest of the recommendations on the DD post.
