Christ, forgive me for the times I’ve promoted pastors, preachers, and prophets as main heroes in the redemption story You authored and made magnificent in my life.

I’m grateful for vessels, but some of the glory I’ve given to others belongs to You.

I repent.

The pastor is not God. You are. The apostle is not the Lord. You are. I repent for ever believing that disconnecting from a pastor that you created could cause you to un-bless me, your creation.

I reject the cult of personality that seeks to defeat, diminish, and destroy the Church, of which You are the Good Shepherd.

I pray that we embrace what You intended regarding righteousness, love, leadership, honor, and being salt and light in the world. Amen.

Contemplating ‘Service without Systemic Change.’ Exploring how we can dive more into work that eradicates the social ill while meeting the critical need; work that, for instance, eradicates hunger, while also supporting efforts to feed the hungry. called it “transforming Jericho Road.” There are a lot of ”kind” people out there serving, but, sometimes, those same people align themselves with unjust policies that perpetuate unjust systems, thereby creating the critical needs. And many shun ways we can translate “kindness” or “service” into “systemic change.” Yet still, there are some “Christians” who, instead of committing to changing systems and ensuring justice, point to meeting critical needs as proof of ”Christianity” and as an example of RACIAL RECONCILIATION. But reconciliation without justice is a RUSE.

An elderly woman from a church I used to attend recently died. All I remember about her are the hurtful comments she made about my weight. She didn’t have dementia, was fully alert. I share this to say that someone being elderly should never mean that them being rude and hurtful is acceptable. Also, think about what you want people to remember about you. Because all I remember about an 80 year-old elderly Black woman (who should have been welcoming, encouraging, and imparting wisdom) is “fat-shaming.”

“Philosophers consider to be a foundational virtue because it guides us to act on behalf of other virtues or values. In fact, our convictions, values, sense of integrity, honor, and loyalty can all influence our courageous actions. When we experience a threat to our moral code, we are likely to act in a way that upholds our beliefs and values. And the more powerful the belief, the more likely you will not be influenced or swayed by those around you.”

Courage doesn’t have to look dramatic or fearless. Sometimes it looks more like quiet perseverance.
