Jay Hopler's third book of poems, STILL LIFE, has just been published by McSweeney's -- at the very moment Jay has entered hospice care. The press asked me to formulate some questions for a dialogue with him, and I did so. But Jay was able to respond to just one question, speaking through the haze of his pain meds with the support and assistance of his wife, the poet Kimberly Johnson. Kim, the press and I concurred that we should post the one inquiry and his spirited answer. Friends, STILL LIFE is unforgettable -- please give Jay's work your attention. You'll find my essay-review on the book in the forthcoming July edition of On the Seawall: A Community Gallery of New Writing & Commentary. https://bit.ly/398ZBZU
