Disappointed by recent attempts at electoral reform, organizers are building community-based safety networks that aim to make police obsolete.

Quedan todes invitades a brindar, arengar, conspirar, leer y bailar.

Earlier this year Bruce X Parker (whose sharp critiques of the Michigan Department of Corrections we have shared with you before) won a major Federal court settlement against his captors. As a “strategist and a tactician” Bruce X takes the struggle in the courts for what it is: a means to survive in the belly of the beast. He argues that what he calls the criminal punishment system (CPS) can never produce justice. Uncle Sam’s prisons and police can never make this society livable for most of us.

Gotta stay vigilant and defend the Abolitionist edge of the uprising. Dems and Republicans, as always, are looking to restore order (classic good cop/bad cop dynamic). But beware: the allies of counter-insurgency can also take other forms.

President Joe Biden outlined changes he hopes to make to criminal justice and policing in the United States during a town hall Tuesday night, highlighting issues that his administration may tackle after COVID-19 relief.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

James Tignanelli, president of the Police Officers Association of Michigan, the state's largest police union, said officers across Michigan also are dealing with increased citizen hostility in many forms.

"They're not just shooting at us; they're resisting every type of arrest," Tignanelli said. "It's almost automatic now when we show up. Everywhere I go, officers are telling me unsolicited that this is becoming a huge problem."

According to the Officer Down Memorial page, which tracks police deaths, 19 officers have been killed by gunfire in 2021 as of Friday, up 12% from the same period last year.

Abolition through attrition?

“People don’t want to be police anymore," one local police chief said. "It’s a good job, and good-paying job, but when you look at national news every day, people just don’t want to be officers."

It all seems like an exception. A miracle. But miracles do not exist. We know that there is a necessary causal order to this world. And that the cause of this effect (Chauvin’s guilty charges) is the on-going rebellion. We celebrate our power - not the state’s conviction.

A guilty verdict is the state’s response to the power of the rebellion as it redirects our power through its own channels. The state responds the only way it knows how to: by trying and, in this case, by convicting one of its own agents. By discarding a “bad apple.”

Instead, this is what we call Abolition: our capacity to produce empowering effects that escape containment by the state. The capacity to build our power so that cops, judges, & prosecutors become obsolete. So we do not celebrate conviction. We find joy in sensing our own power.

Abolition is the truth of our moment. As we bear the tragic news of Daunte Wright, Adam Toledo, and Ma’Khia Bryant — all murdered through “reasonable use of force”— we find a joyful reason only in the Abolitionist power to make our world anew.

21/04/2021

Ma'Khia Bryant felt she was in danger and called the Columbus police, according to her aunt. But when officers arrived at her home on Tuesday afternoon, the girl ended up dead.

20/04/2021

Whatever the verdict remember that the prosecution already stated "this is not an anti-police prosecution, it is a pro police prosecution" and the defense that Chauvin was a "reasonable officer" in use of force. Ain't no justice but the transformation of everything
