: while technically not a comic, this masterwork of comicsplaining is so chock full of amazing work in , if may as well be (and is more than a small incentive to explore more of Eisner's work). What's most remarkable to me is how much McCloud's brilliant tour of the world of comics used this as a template - and how fresh so many of Will's original observations feel, decades later!

: you might be saying "Christian, it's unfair that a quarter of this batch is " and I kinda agree, but a quarter of that is really Gaiman doing things better and I'm consolidating half of what's left. So here's some missing lInks from my collection - I absolutely love (the admittedly disturbing) Neonomicon/Providence series produced by Avatar, this is a pair of prose pieces not originally intended for comics form given amazing adaptations. Absolutely stunning over-the-top illustration and concept, worth every penny, go support your LCS, pls 🙏 P.S. Happy Easter, Happy Spring

There are a few upstarts doing some very interesting work in recently and is one of those quiet powerhouses. TWE introduces a truly masterfully crafted world with some perhaps lesser-known but incredible talents behind it. I guess the alternate reality tropes that have hit collective consciousness recently feeling boilerplate spec-fic to me just means they're waiting for skillful hands and minds like these giving it a seamlessly cutting fun treatment that perfectly balances satire and sincere storytelling 🙂 *apologies for the crappy cover shot, it's beautiful inside and out 👍

: Box Brown's understated - dare I say Boxy? - New Yorker illustration/informational style for : TIOWIA was another lateral approach for me that's really a velvet glove for some sucker-punching perspectives on Solomon's gift (haven't found a First Second book I didn't love, TBH). The visual narrative breathes life into history that might be dismissed as dry or trivial and shines a light on the deep roots of colonialism and racism that's clouded and troubled our relationship with a traditional medicine widely held to be a gift from the gods and the people who've shared it with us 🔥🔥🔥

: TMDOLS isn't something that'd normally draw me in, no pun intended, but its loose style - visually narratively - does just that, playing fast and loose with big ideas, the most beautiful of all being ( ) that the god of life loves the goddess of death ❤️ ☠️ 🤩

's "With the Light" is an absolutely amazing example of what comics can - and should - be: a uniquely formatted, idealized 4D slice of our lives set into a frame that can be shared with the world. WTL could be called a how-to text on how to be a better person, a better family, a better community by responding to the difference different abilities present in a positive, constructive, life-affirming way. It's also beautifully moving story of a mother and child who happens to have autism, and how their fractured path of mutual development brings healing to themselves and others. So good 😊

Comicsgate, you seem upset. If everything else is so significant and I'm so insignificant, why get so upset? Why respond at all? I'll tell you: you're terrified of being exposed as who and what you really are: an odious hate group that covers shady criminal activity with faux outrage over diverse representation. You'd like folks to dismiss you as pathetic, and you can't stop pooping your pants over the fact that everyone can see through you - , after all - but even more so that some people have decided your collective and individual presence in public spaces (and private) is unacceptable. People like me are using your own tactics and tools against you. Have fun freaking out at your own shadow: ✌️❤️🔥🔱🙏
