Holtsville NY: A man driving a Honda Civic was struck and killed by a man behind the wheel of a pickup, who was being pursued by police officers in Holtsville late Tuesday night, Suffolk police said.

A female passenger in the Toyota Tacoma pickup was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The police officers, in a marked car, had tried to pull the pickup driver over for a routine traffic stop around 11:30 p.m. on County Road 83, also known as North Ocean Avenue, but he drove away instead, a police spokesman said.

The officers followed him, with lights flashing and sirens blaring, and about 10 minutes later, the pickup collided with the Honda, police said.

The Honda was going east on Express Drive South, an east-west loop for the Long Island Expressway. It and the Toyota crashed at the intersection with County Road 83, police said.

Police said investigators are still determing how fast the pickup and the officers were going at the time of the collision.

The Honda driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver was arrested and taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-critical injuries, the police spokesman said.

Charges for the pickup driver are pending as investigators continue their work, the spokesman said. (Long Island) // Photos Via: Bryan Lopez

Long Island NY: 3-years in the making. With some donations, help from friends, and volunteers, retired FDNY firefighter Wayne Forte completed a labor of love.

A special ceremonial truck was built. A Ford-F350, equipped with a hydraulic lift in the back, that is able to carry a casket during funeral services, for a fallen officer's final ride. Forte believes it will be the first ceremonial unit of its kind in the department.

The truck was built in loving memory of Forte's dear friend, NYPD Officer Scott Blackshaw, who passed away from 9/11 related cancer in 2018.

Earlier today, dozens of first responders from area agencies participated in escorting the special truck from Commack's firehouse, on Jericho Turnpike, to Floyd Bennett Field, in Brooklyn, where it will be donated to the NYPD just in time for 9/11 ceremonies tomorrow. // Photos Via: Bryan Lopez
