My name is Sean and I am one of Three Admins for Richland County Emergency Alerts. I am a firm believer in the first amendment, however, there are some things that will not be tolerated any longer. First let be start by saying, We receive our information in a few different ways. One is we use a Police Scanner, another is, we physically go to the scene and interview first responders and civilians w
ho have first hand knowledge of the situation, we also get information by making phone calls to different agencies handling the situation, and sometimes receive information from readers who notify us of a situation that may be going on at the time. What is posted is what information is received from these sources. In rare cases, the information given, can be inaccurate at the time it was given, however, we correct this immediately as soon as we are made aware of it. So, when we post something, we fact check it the best way we can, also through the above means. Also, as an investigation of a situation proceeds, certain circumstances can change. We generally will change the new information through updates to the original post, or by removing the original post and writing an updated post. Nothing we post to this page is speculation or guessing, to fill in the gaps, as one reader claimed we did. We receive the information, we check it for accuracy, then it gets posted. These are the rules that will be followed concerning posting comments to this page:
1. When commenting on a post, please stay on topic. Don't bash your fellow readers.
2. There will be NO accusing us of posting false information, if you think something is inaccurate, INBOX the page or with your concern and we will recheck the information, and if it is wrong or has been changed, we will correct and/or update it. Do not make false accusations against the page. This will not only get you banned, but could also lead to civil action against you.
3. DO NOT THREATEN PHYSICAL HARM TO ANYONE ON THIS PAGE, OR INVOLVED IN THE EMERGENCY SITUATION. IF YOU ARE CAUGHT DOING THIS, A SCREENSHOT WILL BE TAKEN, LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL BE NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY, AND YOU WILL BE BANNED IMMEDIATELY. DON'T LET YOUR EMOTIONS GET YOU A JAIL TERM.
4. Speculation from other readers is just that...SPECULATION...remember, some of our readers may be relatives or friends of victims, first responders or of the suspect involved in a Police situation, so emotions tend to run high and people tend to speculate what might have happened or what could have or should have been done. Everyone has a right to their opinion and I allow them to post what they want, as long as it doesn't violate the above rules.
5. Certain comments may be removed at our discretion if we find they are misleading, or may cause emotional turmoil for anyone involved in a situation. This doesn't mean you're banned, it just means we found the comment is inappropriate.
6. If you find a comment to be bothersome, bring it to our attention and move on, we will make the determination whether a comment will be removed or not.
7. When you post an image to our page, you are granting us the right to use the image at our discretion. Like I said before, I am a firm believer in the first amendment, however, if I feel the comments to a situation are getting out of control, I will disable reader comments for a time until I think people can be more civil about it.
