Hello all:
We are the editorial team of Scope, a new online magazine that highlights the medical humanities at UTSW - that's writing, art, reflections on your clerkship patients, photos of your trip to Haiti, a short note on your experience in anatomy, advice columns, humor, the list goes on. Whether it's super-professional or scribbled off, serious or stupid, if it's creative and related to the
medical school experience, we want to feature your work. Read over them. Run your fingers over their smooth surfaces. Then consider the following:
FACT: In recognizing the value of the humanities in medicine, we advance humanism in medicine – the consideration of the human condition that allows real empathy for patients and truly compassionate patient care. FACT: This is a great opportunity to share your work with the wider campus audience on the utsouthwestern.edu webpage. FACT: Being creative is more fun than studying bullet-points in some review book. But we need your help to make this happen. We want your medically-related poetry, stories, reflections, art, and photography for potential inclusion. We especially want your third year clerkship reflections, as these (should) be addressing the same kinds of issues we want to examine. We'd like to feature all submitted pieces, though we would like written pieces not to exceed approx. 1,000 words in length. Submit however you'd like, but we think it would be nice for submissions to include a cover page with the author's name, contact information, and the piece's title. Written pieces should be submitted in .doc format, double spaced; photography and other visual art should be submitted in .jpg format. All submissions and questions should be directed to [email protected]. initial deadline for submission is February 29, 2012. This is not a contest, it's a celebration, and we're so excited to see what you have to say. We can't wait. It's sad really. Sincerely,
Scope Editorial Team
